The White House said U.S. and Ukrainian representatives had "highly productive" talks in Geneva on President Donald Trump's 28-point plan to end the war with Russia, adding that they drafted an "updated and refined" peace framework.
"The talks were constructive, focused, and respectful, underscoring the shared commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace," the White House said in a statement, without providing details.
"The discussions showed meaningful progress toward aligning positions and identifying clear next steps," it noted, and the parties reaffirmed that "any future agreement must fully uphold Ukraine’s sovereignty and deliver a sustainable and just peace."
Meanwhile, Europeans submitted a modified version of Trump's plan that pushes back on proposed limits to Ukraine's military as well as territorial concessions, Reuters reported.
The modified plan was drafted by Britain, France and Germany, a source told Reuters. Their plan also pushed back on the U.S. proposal for frozen Russian assets.
According to the U.S. plan, Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk will be recognized as de facto Russian land. Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, which Russia has partially occupied, will be frozen along the front line.
The plan would ensure that Ukraine does not join NATO, but the country would receive reliable security guarantees.
The plan calls for $100B of frozen Russian funds to be invested in a "U.S.-led effort to reconstruct and invest in Ukraine," with the U.S. receiving 50% of the profits from that venture. The remaining frozen funds would be invested in a "separate U.S.-Russia investment vehicle".
Russian President Vladimir Putin backed the U.S. proposal, saying it "could form the basis of a final peace settlement."

A large difference from the original. Russia will accept nothing less than de jure recognition of Russian ownership.
No one in the EU seems to understand that they are the ones who need ceasefire, not the Russians.
Ukraine should do exactly as President Trump tells them to do, he’ll get the best result for Ukraine and their future, and he’ll get both the ceasefire and the truce sooner than any other entity.
Once upon a time, lol. It was already a pretty one-sided agreement where we wrote down our fantasy list. Now we let the Ukrainians make it even more so. This is going nowhere. This is just a DC fantasy trying to lock in a fig leaf over the complete defeat, And get the money train flowing for the rebuilding and rearming phase of Ukraine.
