Sheriff Burch "repulsed" by video of local teacher charged with abusing her own son
MYNBC15 ^ | 11 19 2025 | Darwin Singleton

Posted on 11/20/2025 12:02:47 PM PST by yesthatjallen

The video was clandestinely captured by another family member who has given us permission to show it to you.

It appears to be a parent attempting to physically discipline her child.

The sheriff's office now confirms the woman is the mother of the 12-year-old child that is about to be struck with a strap or belt 22 times... the beating lasting about 15 seconds.

It is difficult to watch.

The woman then pulls the child up from the sofa by his hair, then unleashes a torrent of profanity.

This video has also been viewed by investigators with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office who identify her as 44-year-old Randi Nicole Staples of Grand Bay.

But some viewers may recognize her as Mrs. Nicole Staples, a second-grade teacher at Cottage Hill Christian Academy.

This is her booking picture from Mobile Metro Jail earlier this evening after being charged with Felony Willful Abuse.

"People are entitled to discipline their children how they choose, but that went well beyond discipline. It was abuse," says Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch, who calls the behavior in the video "repulsive".

LOL!

I’ve gotten my fair share of stuff like that - and I deserved it.

I like to know the why of it.

Interesting that the "investigators" aren't interested in THAT.

And the "family member" who doesn't understand that they just cancelled her income as a teacher.

May the coming "foster care" experience be "enlightening".

Looks like what we used to call a spanking, back when children were expected to mind their parents.

then unleashes a torrent of profanity.

Neither my mother nor my father ever unleashed a torrent of profanity at me. I was shocked once to hear my father say "dammit"; he touched a piece of copper pipe too soon after soldering. Then he apologized. To me. For giving a bad example.

Spanking was rare ... but delivered when warranted.

What did that 12 y/o do, leave the toilet seat down and all covered with piddle?

I am of two minds about this.
I used to be beat like that, a ton of years ago, but it pretty much stopped by the time I was 8 years old.
It usually had to do with either me lying or ‘stealing’ a treat.

I don’t like that the family member took a video, ran to the police, with the result is that woman is likely to lose her job due to bad publicity.
There had to be other ways this could have been handled.
Why was the video, showing inside of her home, released for public viewing? The Mom could have been counseled and/or warned without having to lose nearly everything!

I only thing I did not read was that CPS has now taken custody of the 12 y/o boy, pending some Court Date.
I don’t like how this was handled by the relative (Stool Pigeon) and by the police.

Only 15 seconds and 22 hits???? Whadda putz....
Let me introduce you to “discipline” in the the 1950’s....LOL
My father would wail on my young undeciplined arse till I couldn’t sit down for a week. And whatever I did to provoke it, I thought long and hard before ever doing it again too. It was: “Yes Sir” and “Yes, Mam” no matter what.
My mother’s words: “Wait till you father gets home, young man..” would instill a dread and a strong desire to wait a long, long time....LOL

A little more corporal punish a lot less crime. Sure didn’t hurt me in the long run.

The kid had pants on and she wasn't hitting nearly hard enough to cause damage beyond some reddened buns.

Unless there's more to this story, I guarantee the kid has been far more damaged by being taken away by CPS than anything the mother did.

Yeah but did they have to go outside to the “Switch Bush” and pick out a switch for their own discipline? And if it wasn’t big enough Mom would “get one that was”?

Southern Psyops, I tell you

>>What did that 12 y/o do

These days and being a twelve y/o boy, what ever it takes to keep him from stealing her car?

Yeah my mom would wail away on me with my cowboy holster. It didn’t happen very often, but I always deserved it. My stepfather never laid a hand on me, but I knew he was capable of kicking my Azz.
