Approximately 21,000 Charlotte students missed school on Monday as fears mount over Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity rippling through the community, according to city officials.
The widespread crackdown called Operation Charlotte’s Web has sparked concern and pushback from educators and city leaders about its impact on the local community.
Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem Danté Anderson, a member of the City Council, told Newsweek the absences were a troubling sign for students and families.
“I was sick when I saw the numbers,” Anderson told Newsweek on November 18. “Our students had a hard time with COVID and remote learning. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have worked hard to get students back on track, and now, in one day, 21,000 students stayed home.”
“Those blaming ICE for low attendance at schools are creating a climate of fear and smearing law enforcement," a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told Newsweek. Federal agents patrol in Charlotte, North Carolina, on November 17, 2025. | (Photo by Ryan Murphy/Getty Images)
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), the 16th-largest school district in the country and the second-largest in North Carolina, has roughly 141,000 students enrolled, officials said.
"I'm sure many parents missed work or had to reduce their time at work," Anderson said. "Families are out of work because they have their kids at home. That means at the end of the week, families will have less money to pay their bills. They'll have less money to spend on groceries to feed their families and their children. It is not a positive impact at all."

A good % of their students for the school system.
Obviously, tax payers are educating children of illegals.
good. You are here illegally you should be concerned.
Hmmmmm...potentially 42,000 illegal alien parents.
Good to know a rough number of expected illegal alien removals.
Thanks for the estimate, illegal aliens.
And here’s all the American jobs taken by illegals...
This guy posts this like it’s a bad thing Americans can now get hired doing these jobs:
I Meme Therefore I Am 🇺🇸

Man in North Carolina points to an empty construction site after ICE raids in the area.
This is where all our jobs went, America.
And that is just one location. Multiply it by thousands across the country.
Developers replaced American workers with low-wage foreign labor to save money, and now the truth is out.

“in one day, 21,000 students stayed home”
I wonder if any of those kids showed any interest in learning to begin with?
Thousands of Charlotte Illegal Alien Students Miss School Amid ICE Crackdown
More likely a bunch of kids decided they wanted a day off. Then there are the far left families who probably kept theirs home as some show of support.
“Miss school” Good! More time to pack and arrange their exit!
Now the teachers get the opportunity to actually teach the kids that should be here. Win, Win for everyone.
In around 2005-2005, we were in a major drought in NC. A nearby county had 30-60 days of water and it was reported that that county citizenry consisted of 1/4-1/3 illegals living there. It got very dire as the water situation worsened.
Those illegals stole water that Americans had paid for.
Now, there was something on LA not long ago where someone posted a rush hour video during the week and the major highways were EMPTY. How much of people’s lives have been stolen by illegals who caused the traffic jams.
Maybe return home and then they wouldn’t need to worry.
Not sending Pequeno off to school is not a wise thing to do as it gives the federal government probable cause to think the child lives in a place with an invader.
Now taxpayers get a better idea of how many illegals they are supporting, each dollar spent not going to AmCit children in their public schools.
Good. Now suspend all 21000 of the little bass turds. They’re wasting time in school anyway. The idiots can’t speak English.
I was in the Charlotte bus station just after the furniture industry collapsed - it was mobbed.
A former coworker in TX told me how he went to the school board meetings to complain about the US school busses that went to the Mexican border every weekday and picked up busloads full of Mexican children to bring them to American schools. educate them, feed them, give them all kinds of assistance and then take them back to the border after school.
He was called a racist.

These sentences say it all - get your nasty asses back to YOUR COUNTRY and let them feed your parasitic spawn.
Bet it made teaching the actual American children much easier.
We don’t have many illegals in our town, but they are consistently the dead weight and burden in the classroom, dragging the other kids down to their level.
As I see it, they just self-identified, take all the names and start rounding them all up.
