Hyundai is offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring services to those who have received the notice, and advises customers to be vigilant for any incidents of fraud and identity theft.
Another kick in the ass for Hyundai.
Another day, another data leak.
This is bad, but data leaks from our insurance providers must be in the millions.
At least Hyundai is offering two years of credit monitoring, and leaving customers to fend for themselves.
Thanks! Sounds like something that Hyundai would intercourse up. May explain why yesterday I had to reset my info on the lender site where I have my car payment, and the software had changed since the last (quite recent) time.
The late Robert Schimmel had a Hyundai joke, but I can't post it because there's no way to clean it up. 😊
Why in the world would Hyundai need/have an owner’s Social Security number?
That’s crazy.
Side point: I see a line for my Social Security number on a lot of forms. At the dentist’s office, etc. I just leave it blank. So far, no one has questioned it.
Sure America, keep buying Korean cars. You’ll get exactly what you paid for, good and hard.
At this rate I’ll have free credit monitoring until sometime in the early 22nd century.

If you finance through them, they'll need it.
> If you finance through them, they’ll need it. <
That should actually be illegal. I can see them requiring your driver’s license, plus a few other forms of ID. Old utility bills, etc. But not the SS number.
This has a weird positive effect. It shows the downside to having giving so much information to the new digital overlords.
Maybe some people will have pause about giving their information out so freely.
I hope so, but doubt it.
They probably have mine.
I bought a Kia 2 years ago. Was all ready to write a check when they asked if I wanted to finance it. I asked the interest rate.
1%
Excuse me? OK, I’ll take as much of that as you will give me.
They use it for the credit checks, loan processing registrations of vehicles, ect!
The least secret of all secrets are social security numbers for those who are determined hack such secrets!
I got 0% on my 2021 Santa Fe.
The worst part is that you can do it without an SSN.
That’s how illegals get loans.
How would this company have anyone’s SSN?
oops, already answered.
Welcome to the world of the credit rating. Your credit rating is tied to your socsec, so their ability to decide if you’re worth the risk needs your socsec. If you want to outlaw them getting your socsec outlaw the credit score. Which honestly is a very good idea, it’s nothing but a scam anyway.
I remember a time when your personal info has to be physically pilfered from a hard copy. Sure miss those dayz.

“At least Hyundai is offering two years of credit monitoring”
With all the data hacks, all of us can get free credit monitoring for life!
Far better to LOCK your credit reports. Do it separately at Equifax, Transunion, and Experian.
