The Supreme Court on Friday granted the Trump administration’s emergency appeal to temporarily block a court order to fully fund SNAP food aid payments amid the government shutdown, even though residents in some states already have received the funds.

Which states issued SNAP payments In Wisconsin, more than $104 million of monthly food benefits became available at midnight on electronic cards for about 337,000 households, a spokesperson for Democratic Gov. Tony Evers said. The state was able to access the federal money so quickly by submitting a request to its electronic benefit card vendor to process the SNAP payments within hours of a Thursday court order to provide full benefits.

Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, a Democrat, said state employees “worked through the night” to issue full November benefits “to make sure every Oregon family relying on SNAP could buy groceries” by Friday.

Hawaii had the information for November’s monthly payments ready to go, so it could submit it quickly for processing after Thursday’s court order — and before a higher court could potentially pause it, Joseph Campos II, deputy director of Hawaii’s Department of Human Services, told The Associated Press.

“We moved with haste once we verified everything,” Campos said.

I understand that the SNAP money is being diverted from more worthy food programs. THAT should be the headline.

Per the above, Hawaii and Oregon are two of the 21 states refusing to cough up their SNAP data to the USDA.

As for WI...

https://wisconsinexaminer.com/2025/11/07/full-snap-benefits-for-november-paid-to-wisconsin-foodshare-recipients/

Per the above...

“...According to the administration, a total of about $104.4 million was issued for 337,137 households. It said the payments went out before the Trump administration requested that a federal appeals court block the order from McConnell on Friday morning...”

Don’t ask, don’t tell on where that $104 mil came from...

Wisconsin’s Governor is sitting on a remainder of about $225M of the COVID slush funds distributed to the states, which only require the governor’s discretion to spend. Use that, Gov. Evers, to send the money back.

I don’t see why the school lunch program (and most schools offer breakfast while some even send home an afternoon snack) aren’t factored in when determining SNAP benefits.

RE: money from the school lunch program.

In the period of 1969-1970s the Black Panthers provided meals in schools under their Free Breakfast for School Children program. It finally was shut down due to “police raids, FBI interference, and internal party conflicts.” —they claim.

After it ended, it was said to be the inspiration for the US Government’s School Breakfast Program, which now provides meals to millions of children. It was made into a permanent entitlement program in 1975.

If they had that back in the 50’s I wouldn’t have had to eat cold grits flavored with grape jelly.

When do the courts rule that the monies left in the agency offices postage meters be used to fund SNAP?

Sorry to rain on your pity parade but come gtits flavored with grape jelly sounds a whole lot better than the Mystery Meat our grammar school tried to feed us. They had to haul in extra garbage cans every time they put Mystery Meat on the menu. The kids had an innate an aversion to it. Perhaps an evolutionary survival instinct? Besides it stunk.

The interesting thing is that our supposedly intelligent Educators never learned that we wouldn’t eat the krap. Even though they had to bring in extra trash cans every time they served it.

I am old enough to remember when Americans were happy to work hard have what they NEED and now Americans are angry if they don’t get everything they WANT without even working.

My school had a sign up sheet for anyone who wanted to work in the cafeteria for a week. You wound up being put on a list because they had so many takers. Free lunch and all you could eat was the incentive.
