Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) on Sunday said that if Democrats vote to advance a House-passed continuing resolution, he will offer as a substitute another stopgap spending measure with a later expiration date combined with three full-year appropriations bills, known as a minibus.
Thune told reporters that the Senate will vote Sunday afternoon on a proposal to open the government, after not holding any votes Saturday afternoon.
The text of the legislation is expected to be released early Sunday afternoon.
It is expected to include the regular appropriations bills funding military construction, veterans affairs, the Department of Agriculture and the legislative branch — which have already been conferenced with House appropriators — and a stopgap measure funding the rest of the federal government until late January.
Thune said he will move to replace the House-passed continuing resolution, a “clean” bill that funds government through Nov. 21, with the combined continuing resolution and minibus, which one Senate GOP aide dubbed the “Criminibus.”
Republican senators gathered in the Mansfield Room on Sunday to munch on pizzas from Andy’s Pizza and leftover Halloween candy to discuss their next steps.

The longer the shut down goes on the greater chance that people will wake up to the fact that they need LESS government not more.
Seems to me, after all the whining about snap and aca subsidies....that the ones who really need government are the welfare leeches. Hope the rest of the country sees it too.
Well, here it is - Sunday afternoon (1524 eastern time) and nothing yet .... maybe they want to schedule the vote for close to midnight?
🚨 BREAKING: John Thune hopes to vote on opening the government TODAY with a new bill, that would need to go to the House
Per Fox, there is a FRAGILE coalition of Democrats likely to support it. But it could fall apart.
Time for Democrats to CAVE! The suffering must end! 🇺🇸— Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) November 9, 2025
How could the dems deny that? 😵!!!!!
Thune, the House already did it’s job, do yours.
A COMMENT ON MY TRADING DISCORD:
I have it on very good authority that the DNC had a phone call yesterday and said that they want the shut down to extend through Thanksgiving. They think it is a winning issue for them and airline mayhem will ratchet up the angst forcing the Republicans to cave.
When I say very good authority I am talking about a State Senator who was on that call.
Okay, Thune, tell the RINOs that you are going to hold a vote to end the filibuster. If it goes down you will adjourn the Senate sine die. Then we have a genuine national emergency, Trump can make recess appointments and invoke other emergency powers.
Congress is a Robbin’ ‘Hood.
Steal from the makers and give to the takers, with a little off the top for themselves.
“Every year, the outlaws swing out of the trees, rob the merchants and ride back to Washington D.C. for a glorious feast over the stolen goods, which they may in some small way share with a few peasants, to secure their support.”

The longer the shutdown goes on, the more apparent the number of anti-Trump Republicans willing to sit back and let anti-Trump Democrats do the heavy anti-Trump lifting becomes.
I was reading some comments from the KOS site with a similar article - those people were using the analogy of the Apache Indians - they’d rather resist til death, rather than compromise.

More like Dennis Moore:
He takes from the poor
And gives to the rich
Stupid bitch!
“Trump can make recess appointments and invoke other emergency powers.”
Until a Biden appointed judge shoots it down.
Why would he reveal that?
My bet is that they won't be good enough for them to pass the bill.
I am getting a relentless drumbeat of emails and commercials from my Democrat Senators and House Representatives blaming the Republicans for the shutdown and using "hunger as a weapon".
That is clearly the talking point dictated by the party leadership and sponsors. All Democrat officials around here are repeating it verbatim. A discouraging number of my relatives and acquaintances believe that narrative.
Put me down for "funding bills get passed shortly after November 27 (Thanksgiving)". They will be continuing resolutions timed to expire in June 2026.
They will need to pass the bill before we can see what is in it. Where have I heard that line before?
Yep. They've weaponized the shutdown to gain a political advantage in time for the midterms next year.
Basically the Democrats have found a gap in the Republicans' political strategy and the gridiron is now wide open.
The problem with that is Thune does not want to end the filibuster
This person on my discord seems like someone who would be associated with powerful people...drives a Bentley, makes lots of $.
Ok ... But that doesn’t answer my question ...
