Posted earlier on FR that in New York City also, thousands of Orthodox Jews showed up a few weeks ago to the Israeli consulate to protest the same thing.
They need to put down the Talmud and pick up a Tavor.
The Orthodox in NYC are the Jews who voted for “Killer Cuomo,” this week.
THEY WISH FOR THE BENEFITS OF THE IDF...BUT THEY REFUSE TO PARTICIPATE???
SOUNDS A LITTLE ARROGANT
They are a growing political force. The Haredim, their culture, their non-centralized structure, and existence and growth throughout parts of the Western world remind me a lot of the Amish.
Those guys must be real jerks.
Everyone knows that only anti-semites criticize the 1948 UN created government of Israel.
Their reasons for avoiding military service seem very like the Amish attitudes toward many aspects of secular culture.
They should send them all to Gaza...fight or die...see what happens when you refuse to defend yourself and demand others do it for you.
This way to the train........ SMDH!
Opus?
< shrug >
Not my country, not my problem.
“Only 1/3 Jewish voters voted for Mamdani.
In Orthodox neighborhoods, including one that is 96% Jewish, the vote was 96% for Cuomo.”
Do you have a problem with the truth?
Certain sects of Hasid (a subset of Orthodox) in Israel oppose the secular state of Israel, as it is their theological belief that the state should not be formed until the Messiah forms it.
Modern Orthodox and even most non-Hasidic Orthodox do not have this opinion.
Depends on what the context of the truth is. There are “orthodox” and there are orthodox. Using “orthodox” as a blanket statement over very different groups (e.g. Haredim, who are typically anti-Zionist) is misleading.
The poster thinks not throwing a vote away on Sliwa, as requested by President Trump, was bad by the only non-Mandami group in NYC (the Jewish vote in NYC).
Really, he just has a problem with Jews.
Sorry; wrong thread.
Pathetic cowards. They can serve in the defense forces and study too.
They are very conservative. I the US, they vote almost 100% Republican. But their religious belief is that they should NOT serve in military.
Kind of hard to square.
Since they are pretty big group in Israel (about 14%), they cannot be ignored (unlike Amish). Maybe they should be treated like conscientious objectors and do some charity work instead fighting, but I think, they are against it too.
What I know, the ones in Israel, they believe that their men should do practically nothing, but full time study Talmud.
They live on charity and women’s work.
But they are having a lot of children, so they are growing in numbers.
I admire their religious dedication, but I also understand that the rest of Israelites do not really want them free load.
Hard to square?!
A lot of our conscientious objectors, including many Amish, served in non combat supportive roles during the World Wars.
