This is a video of President Trump's speech 11/5 during a breakfast with Republican senators. Skip to 29 minute mark. The earlier portion is commentator filler. Apologies IDK how to post Rumble at a time stamp. This speech is remarkable for Trump's impassioned & reasoned plea for the Senate to end the filibuster now. The President also addresses the blue slip tradition very bluntly. On a day when good news is hard to find it appears that once again when the going gets tough the tough get going.
“May God save & protect these United States & our President, “
As Gutfeld says of president Trump: We don’t deserve him!
I’m extremely depressed by last night’s results. Not that I care who is governor of NJ, or VA, or that I care that a muslim commie is mayor of NYC.
What I care about is this has the feel of the indoctrinated public being upset that Trump hasn’t fixed everything already. Given that, the public seems to be in a mood to punish Republicans.
End the filibuster so the mostly unconstitutional and, thus, illegal and corrupt federal gov’t can come to life again to coerce you and take your money?
Except for the military, America and the American People NEED most of the rest of the federal gov’t to be shut down - PERMANENTLY!!!
MAGA with MORE freedom and LESS gov’t!!
LESS gov’t, MORE prosperity!!!
The Democrats had three liberals running for mayor. The two leaders would or have hurt Jews or elderly people. Both ran as Democrats this year.
In my own county, less than 18% turned out to vote last night.
Republicans have far too much complacency for off year elections. We don’t get out the vote for such occasions.
Liberals see it as worth having rallying cries. Republicans think that is quaint.
My wife and I got out and voted, regardless. We always try to vote.

Those were blue races yesterday. We knew NYC was lost. We didnt even have a candidate. Maybe if SLiwa would have dropped out early. And Virginia is home to many government workers. Dont know enough about New Jersey to weigh in. In addition, the average voter gets their news online in soundbites. Most are not aware of what President Trump has done. Not aware why government is shutdown.
For midterms, we need to be pounding on every door, calling every number to get out message across.
President Trump only encourages lunatic liberals to continue shutdown.
Drop the filibuster threshold to 55 votes. Easier to get 55 than 60.
And then reinstate it at will.
What scares me is that Jay Jones was elected. Killing your opposition is going mainstream. Good article here:
“What scares me is that Jay Jones was elected. Killing your opposition is going mainstream.”
That is the most distressing part of this election. People that voted for this human garbage have virtually nothing in common with me. And that makes them dangerous to me as they consolidate their power.
Leave the filibuster in place even though I don’t like the 60 vote routine because you should have to actually filibuster, but absolutely get rid of that blue slip BS. There is no question that the House of Lords, as they like to think of themselves, put in rules that amplify the power of a single senator so they can hold throw their weight around and feel like BMOCs.
As President Trump said (roughly) “leave the fillibuster in and the democrats will remove it as soon as they are in power. It would be gone already if not for Manchin & Sinema...they are gone now. Nuke it now and pass legislation that will stregnthen USA and protect against Dem over reach or don’t and waste the next three years, make it definite that the Dems will take 2028”. Fillibister is just a rule the Senate made not in the Constitution.
It’s amusing to me.
I was always taken with the apocryphal story that the British Redcoats stood in formation and we fired from cover & won.
The people resisting removing the filibuster seem like Redcoats to me. The blind belief, despite all evidence to the contrary, that gentlemens’ agreements matter to the left is willful obstinacy, like the belief that there was no other way of fighting than in formation.
When your family, your Country, your life is at stake you play smart not by some rule that can be chaned at whim. Donald Trump knows that, I know that and the left doesn’t even need lives at stake, any goal to advance their agenda will suffice to justify scorched earth.
“changed”
You’re right, the filibuster is not in the Constitution. What is in the Constitution is that each house makes rules about its proceedings and that’s where the filibuster comes from and the rules around it. I haven’t liked this 60 vote cloture routine for as long as I have watched it because to me, it’s a back door super majority for routine legislation. There is no Mr Smith Goes to Washington filibuster going on that they’re voting cloture on. It’s just a nose counting exercise and there aren’t 60 noses to be counted.
I don’t know what could be passed instead and I don’t know if you can count on being able to pass what you do come up with because of McConnell, Collins, Murkowski, Tillis, and Rand Paul. Again, and keeping with the bad mood of this day after, this is where the do nothing RNC letting those four Senate seats go over to the Democrats really hurts.
