The final results of the Minneapolis mayoral race won't be called until Wednesday at the earliest, but incumbent Jacob Frey is ahead of his challengers by at least 10% as Election Day draws to a close.
Frey secured 41.76% of first-choice votes, followed by progressive challenger Omar Fateh with 31.72% of the vote.
It's still possible that Fateh, a state senator, could still be declared the winner once second- and third-choice votes are counted, but Frey is the comfortable favorite as counting of votes enters a second day.
Speaking at his election night party, Frey said: "Everybody, this city showed up once again ... we got what appears to be near record turnout. And I’ll tell you what – it looks damn good for us."
DeWayne Davis won 13.73% of first-choice votes and Jazz Hampton claimed 10.39% of votes. Both will likely be eliminated and have their second-choice votes reassigned.
Fateh, Davis and Hampton all supported each other's candidacies and encouraged voters to rank any combination of them first, second and third in a bid to oust Frey, who is seeking a third-term in office.

The fact it’s so close is cause for alarm. And a wake up call.
Good
A third world communist won in New York because New York is a third world city now. This is mass migration working exactly as intended. It isn’t anymore complicated than that.— Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) November 5, 2025
we have got to get rid of RANKED CHOICE VOTING.
IT IS SUICIDE FOR NORMAL PEOPLE.
I guess we'll have to take the good news where we can find it tonight.
It would be funny if Omar Fateh ends up winning RCV because Jacob Frey would have won in a normal election.
Life is hard. You are responsible for your personal safety, health, housing, nutrition, and finances. Failing to meet those responsibilities isn't racism, sexism, or any "isms of professional victimhood".
Seriously this loser would be cold comfort, but if there’s a pause in the falls of Minneapolis to Islam, I’ll take it
I never thought I’d actually be happy to see that wuss Frey ahead in an election.
We live in interesting times.
>> we have got to get rid of RANKED CHOICE VOTING.
yup
Correct.
Indeed.
Jacob Frey has a strong lead among first-choice votes, with about 42%.
Omar Fateh was the top challenger, trailing with about 31% of first-choice votes.
Fateh Needs more than 60% of votes in 2nd round - not likely to happen
Ranked choice voting is a travesty.
Hah.......what made him lose so badly?
.....besides being a “Somali” candidate, that is........
Did Omar help ....or hinder?
It’s better than a Muslim. Sorry but it is.
Matt is correct.
This is part of the plan.
I had to vote for him. There wasn’t a single republican on the ballot.
The lessor of the evils I guess.
