JERUSALEM, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Five million of the more than six million Jews killed in the Holocaust have now been identified, and with the further help of artificial intelligence (AI), even more names could be recovered, Israeli researchers said on Monday. Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem, said the milestone marks seven decades of work and is at the heart of its mission to recover the identities of those murdered by the Nazis during World War Two.

If they keep AI working on finding names, they may end up with 7 or 8 million names for the 6 million.
(Folks are smart enough to know that the precise 6,000,000 number isn’t an exact count, don’t they?)

Most people are smart enough not to have to point it out.
Okay here is the question. It is said 6 Million Jews were killed systematically, that is roughly 6,000 a day for 3 years. How was that accomplished logistically, and this was done in only 3 concentration camps.
According to my research only 25 crematoriums were built by the Germans, so with a average of 10 ovens per facility that means, given it takes 3 hours per body to cremate, at best you could process maybe 2000 bodies a day. That is 24 hours a day 7 days a week. How many were down due to maintenance?
Where were the rest of crematoriums, you would have needed at least 150 to 200 crematoriums to make the whole thing work. Then how many support personnel would be needed to transfer and process the bodies?
Where was the system of Gas Chambers to do all this killing?
Jewish people were the prime target but another 6 million non Jews also died during the holocaust. The National Socialists spread their hatred wide.
Do you really think every single person was cremated?
There were 6 camps that were extermination camps. There were also slave labor camps, concentration camps(980), transit camps, and Nazi set-up Jewish ghettos. All told, there were 40,000+ camps/ ghettos where the Nazis killed Jews, Slavs, Romani. Also, keep in mind that the slaughter of Jews occurred in the streets, fields, and forests.
A quick search tells me that the Germans had 44,000 concentration camps of various size and duration (some open quite shortly as work camps it seems) during the period of 1933 to 1945. This included the ghettos.
There are lots of photos and accounts of mass burials, so it isn’t like all of the bodies were cremated. I bet a lot (most?) of them died due to starvation and sickness.
In Treblinka, in many ways the worst extermination camp at all, were about million Jews were killed (and ONLY Jews), there were no crematories. People were gassed or shot and just buried in mass graves.
After Katyn, were 6000 polish officers were executed by Stalin, was discovered, Nazis realized that human bodies do not decay too well.
So they dug out all the dead Jewish bodies and burned them on huge stakes.
Americans see Holocaust in the prism of Auschwitz. but Auschwitz was somewhat atypical.
There were some survivors and not everybody killed there was Jew.
Treblinka, Sobibor and Belzec were in many ways even worst than Auschwitz.
There were practically NO survivors, and !everybody! killed there was Jew!
Those were not really camps, just death factories, as everybody was gassed on arrival so there was no need for inmate housing!

Before that they used trucks filled with carbon monoxide, machine guns, gatling guns etc. Millions just died of starvation. Vast numbers of German SS and local recruits from Poland, France and other occupied countries were only too happy to join in.

The Holocaust was not limited to prison camps. One of the the most horrendous examples is Babi Yar, a ravine in Kiev were 34,000 Jews were killed in 3 days at the end of September 1941.
Operation Barbarossa was Hitler's invasion of the USSR. Under the directives of the Commissar Order every Jew and Jewish settlement was destroyed by the advancing Nazis.
The whole story of the Holocaust is unbearable to read about. There is so much documentation, and so many witnesses that Holocaust denial is a sign of mental illness and/or Satan inspired evil.
If Stalin and Mao could kill the millions claimed they did, and Pol Pot kill 3 million Cambodians in 4 years, I have no doubt the super efficient nazis could kill 6 million in their time.
I remember seeing films in the 1950s TV of bulldozers pushing thousands of dead bodies into trenches for burial. This was before such films ceased to be shown on TV.
I remember seeing an old LIFE MAGAZINE article from the 1940s of a nazi murder camp complete with photos.
The nazis would have Jews pile brush, then lay down on it and the nazis shot them.
Then another layer of brush, and more shooting till they had a large pile which would then be burned.
Again, it had photo evidence with an unburned pile with lots of shot dead people in them.

It will be impossible to catalog all of the Jews murdered by the Nazis. Roughly half of those killed in the holocaust perished in the camps. Germans being German, there they kept meticulous records.
But many more were killed by the Einsaztgrupen who were too busy murdering to document the slaughter. The invasion of Poland was a quagmire of blood and extracting records for that time is a hopeless task.
Also, remember that many tons of irreplaceable records were destroyed as the Red Army and allies were closing in.
Correct. Auschwitz was a concentration camp. Besides murder, it was used for slave labor and horrific medical experimentation.
Treblinka was an extermination camp, existing for the sole purpose of killing Jews.
Right. The Treblinka story is so horrific, just beyond imagination.
Yet, it is not too well known.
I think, mostly, because the German’s had time and did good job liquidating the camp (they basically ran out of Jews to kill) and even build a farm over it.
There is virtually nothing left to show to the visitors, there are not even pictures and almost no survival stories (as there were practically no survivors).
Unlike Auschwitz, where you can see the reminds of barracks, gas chambers, crematoriums, the pictures, shoes and glasses of victims.
