This year's pivotal UN climate summit in Brazil faces a tidal wave of fake news and disinformation that aims to deflate any unified front on a rapid energy transition away from fossil fuels.
COP30 comes at a time when US president Donald Trump, the leader of the world's largest historical carbon polluter, has launched an unprecedented assault on climate and renewable energy programs.
Meanwhile, the Climate Action Against Disinformation coalition (CAAD), a global climate watchdog, is asking media and Big Tech to screen "harmful false content" about climate for their audiences, and to be transparent about the source of any disinformation to ensure "transparency and accountability," noted Philip Newell, CAAD's communications co-chair.
But climate lies, most lately emanating from the Trump administration about the cost and job creation potential of renewable energy, are being replicated in the media globally.
"The return of Trump to power in January triggered a spike in unchallenged climate disinformation in French media," noted Eva Morel, secretary general of climate NGO QuotaClimat. A report on climate disinformation that was co-authored by QuotaClimat showed that instances of climate deception in French media tripled in the first eight months of 2025.
If COP30 hopes to help bridge this misalignment, it needs to take an "unprecedented opportunity” to facilitate "coordinated global action to tackle disinformation.”

CO2 is Organic, non-GMO, GLUTEN FREE, and NOT a pollutant.
The article's opening gambit is SHEER LUNACY.
"As a majority of global citizens call for bold climate change action, a new push for information integrity aims to neutralize the climate denial that has thwarted ambitious action."The idiocy of this collectivist blather is bold, even "audacious" in the Obama sense of the word.
The world is not an internationalist's democracy, and therefore "a majority of global citizens" does not rule. Moreover, any call to "neutralize" an individual's opinion is essentially authoritarian in nature. Silence, screamed in an English-lanuague article, intending to reach outside the German-speaking populace.
As to "thwarted action," this is the wannbe authoritarian bemoaning that "rule" does not extend to silencing views.
And lastly, there is not such thing as "climate denial." The entirety of the opening gambit of this DW article is "eine faschistische Übung."
There are a few historical precedents which had intended "to neutralize" others. One of these had a distinctly National Socialist accent. Different uniforms. Same intent. Power and control.
We haven’t heard anything from Greta about global warming recently. Has she moved on from global warming?
Stuart Braun must have held a seance and channeled Joseph Goebbels .
I did notzi that coming
( Actually, I did
National and Global Socialists tyranny and all.)
This is Western Europe trying desperately to remain relevant.
“US president Donald Trump, the leader of the world’s largest historical carbon polluter”
not an outright lie, but grossly misleading, trying to IMPLY that the USA is currently the world’s largest carbon polluter, when in fact the weasely qualifier “historical” means that the USA is NOT currently the world’s largest carbon polluter, but that one or more OTHER countries are in fact currently the world’s largest carbon polluter(s) ...
article is just more propaganda ...
I’m hoping they address the recent statement by grantees, uh, I mean scientists that half that Antarctic COULD drop off by 2300 and COULD cause a 32 foot rise in sea levels. Only 375 years left!!!!!!

I hate to break this to them, but Andrew and the Harkles are the least of their problems.
Agree. One can cite many times when various EU types have bemoaned that they are not more influential in the world. Shan't take the time in this moment but, it's an interesting phenomenon.
When the EU was first mutating out of the Common Market and into its current form -- very different -- we were legal residents in Germany. On more than one occasion, I had opined to our friends and neighbors that this was just another layer of expensive bureaucracy being "super-structured" on top of older national entities, so many with their royals and memories of empire.
Given these United States are about four percent of the world's population, and given that the EU is about five percent, simple arithmetic tells a simple conclusion. Not all are happy with that conclusion.
A little "snack" comes from Politico, which I consider at least leaning Left:
One's image of one's self is a crucial element. Decades ago, I wrestled a cousin thirty years younger out on the lawn to a draw. Nearing 80, I'd be stupid to pull that stunt again. But if I did, I'd lose in no time flat. Wisdom in all things, and moderation as well.
Unless you dream of empire, or ruling the world....
Remember:
"Look. I have a cognitive test every single day. Every day I have that test. Everything I do. You know, not only am I campaigning, but I'm running the world. Not-- and that's not hi-- sounds like hyperbole, but we are the essential nation of the world.. Madeleine Albright was right. We’re robbing our children to pay for the defense of NATO Eurotrash bent on ruining themselves and taking us with them.
The run-up to this year’s COP is more angst-ridden than usual, with the alarmist previews ever more lurid. The cult is clearly on the defensive now, and pulling out all stops to obfuscate the truth—ie, that the con is falling apart, and we the people can see it.
That depends on whether one accepts that "carbon" is pollution" or not. Since my bride and I do not, the whole is an outright lie. Carbon is the sixth in our periodic table and, as all agree, essential for life. Ergo, "carbon-based" life. From Obama and Maurice Strong and the Paris Agreement stuff, "carbon" has become a bad word. It's a matter of repeating something often enough that the assertion is accepted as fact.
Not by any metric is US the biggest. This is all lies to shame US citizens into pouring more $$ into this line of crappola. $$ to be skimmed.
I'm not sure I agree with your math there, my friend. I'm leaning toward 275 years left. We better get going!
Of course, 2112 will arrive in less than 100 years. People born today will live to see the formation of the Solar Federation. I won't post any spoilers.
These days I only count on tomorrow. LOL! 20 more years is possible. At least on my mom’s side.
You beat me to it in pointing out the phrase “the world’s largest historical carbon polluter”. The writer’s use of the word “historical” was clearly an effort to put blame on the United States, and avoid mentioning who’s currently the largest, which is what matters most. According to Wikipedia, China’s carbon pollution in 2025 is nearly three times that of the United States:
China 34%
United States 12%
As for efforts to reduce carbon pollution, since 2000 the United States is down 21%, and China is up 262%.

>> That depends on whether one accepts that “carbon” is pollution” or not. <<
Yes, another consideration. Just using their own standards, though, the writer’s use of “historical” was deceptive.
