State Senate president rejects midcycle changes to congressional map as ‘too risky’
Gov. Wes Moore (D) hinted that he may move ahead with plans to redraw the state’s eight congressional districts, and to call a possible special session, despite opposition from a key lawmaker.
Senate President Bill Ferguson (D-Baltimore City), in a letter to Senate Democrats Tuesday, said he opposed mid-cycle redistricting, which he called “too risky” for Democrats who could end up losing a seat in their efforts to redraw congressional districts to gain one.
Ferguson said that redistricting in the middle of a decade “twists rules for potential short-term advantage while undermining trust in institutions and ultimately, democracy, but that is not the reason we should not pursue it.”
“Simply put, it is too risky and jeopardizes Maryland’s ability to fight against the radical Trump Administration. At a time where every seat in Congress matters, the potential for ceding yet another one to Republicans here in Maryland is simply too great,” he wrote...

I’d love to see such an effort result in the gain of a Republican seat instead of the loss of Maryland’s sole Republican seat. Being hoisted on his own petard would WIPE THAT PERPETUAL GRIM OFF OF THE GOVERNOR’S FACE,
The senate leader explained it well:...a judge who looks at our gerrymander will bring scrutiny to our rigged map, toss it, and call for something more representative.

Wes Moore has been a great disappointment to everyone. He has a great CV - Johns Hopkins grad, Rhodes scholar, Afghan vet with 82nd Airborne, author, banker, businessman, TV producer, charity CEO, etc.
Everyone thought he could lead the Dim state to prosperity and peace, but it turns out he has a spine of jello. Maryland’s budget is in a hole for the foreseeable and none of the Dims are happy with him trying to do anything about it. Now he just goes along to get along and keeps his mouth shut. He would rather follow the DNC than do the right thing.
I believe he thinks that will keep his chances for VP, or even president, alive by not doing anything that will get national attention, but it might backfire.
Western MD Wastelands are now somehow connected to MontCo though they don’t even remotely touch at any point.
