Fact Check: Did Democrats Vote Against Funding SNAP Benefits?
Newsweek ^ | 10/28/25 | Andrew Stanton

Posted on 10/29/2025 11:15:08 AM PDT by DallasBiff

“Senate Democrats have now voted 12 times to not fund the food stamp program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Bottom line, the well has run dry. At this time, there will be no benefits issued November 01. We are approaching an inflection point for Senate Democrats. They can continue to hold out for healthcare for illegal aliens and gender mutilation procedures or reopen the government so mothers, babies, and the most vulnerable among us can receive critical nutrition assistance,” the website reads.

This USDA is one of several federal agencies that have displayed messages seeking to blame Democrats for the shutdown. The administration has faced criticisms over potential Hatch Act violations in its use of the messaging.

I'm a child of the 60's and 70's, and my mother would get disgusted with people using food stamps. She would look for the best prices, taught me basic math comparing prices in the supermarket.

I know "mean" in today's world, but it taught me a lot.

All names of all bills are totally made up.

They should change the name of the continuing resolution to the “SNAP Benefits Temporary Extension Act” and make the Democrats vote against it.

Majority Speaker Johnson and company should be naming and shaming all the Dems who have repeatedly voted to “starve”
their own constituents. Be very LOUD about it. Step on toes.
Dems are counting on most of the GOP to be either too timid or too much the Gentlemen to make a fuss.

That genteel method no longer works with this crowd, like not at all!
Think Eric Swalwell and Jasmine Crockett. NOT Hubert Humphrey and Tip O’Neil.

Doesn’t really matter if the democrats are keeping the govt closed. The democrats know the dumbest and most ignorant people will ALWAYS blame republicans by default.

You could be right. The dumbest and most ignorant people will never change their views of Republicans. But they may begin to see their own leadership as impotent and powerless. That, of itself, may be worth something.

The left’s idea of a “fact check” is trying to legitimize an outright lie. It fits into the same category as fake polls and fake science.

Even on snap you have to budget. It’s not extra money, there’s barely enough to eat more than starches. That’s why people get fat, starches. I, the 70’s I was able to purchase better foods than I can today. I live on less than min.wage @$7.25/hr..hundreds less, and am lucky to get a whopping $40/mo in snap so yes, budgeting is necessary if I want to eat twice a day. Especially with today’s prices. And starches aren’t a privilege for me due to health issues.

The full allotment is $279.00 and that only happens on zero income. And now they have reduced what you can purchase.

Will the eventual CR include a provision to keep sending mail-in ballots to all those po’ folks who starve during the Dem shutdown? (sarcasm, maybe)

The memo nobody liked.

Impact of the Government Lapse on November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Household Benefits Office of the Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services

• Contingency funds are not legally available to cover regular benefits
• Transfers from other sources would pull away funding for school meals and infant formula.
Per the first point...Democrats want Republicans to do something illegal. Go figure.
Per the second point...so much for "It's for the children."

Why are you guys not getting this?

It’s not about the Dems seeking majority or not.

It’s about individual Dem seat holders in safe districts NOT DARING TO BEND THE KNEE lest they be primaried.

There is no spectacular end to this with Dems bending the knee. Any Dem Senator who does will be removed by his own party.
