U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan has removed prosecutor Maggie Cleary from the Eastern District of Virginia amid a restructuring linked to politically sensitive cases. The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed the removal as part of Halligan’s reorganization efforts. Cleary, who briefly led the office after Acting U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert’s resignation, has not been confirmed for reassignment.
Under Halligan, the Justice Department charged former FBI Director Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James after Trump had urged investigations.
Siebert resigned over fears of being ousted for not targeting Letitia James; Trump later said he was dismissed for supporting Senate Democrats. Halligan signed Comey’s indictment despite objections.
The DOJ stated, “Lindsey Halligan is an outstanding attorney who is working tirelessly to hold criminals accountable and uphold the rule of law.”
The DOJ added, “She is fully supported by the AG, DAG, and the entire team at Main Justice, and we are confident in her ability to lead the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia in a way that’s just and keeps Virginians safe. The Department does not discuss personnel matters.”
Senior prosecutor Michael Ben’Ary was also dismissed under Halligan. Ben’Ary later warned it could impact key national security cases.
Ben’Ary wrote, “I am disappointed to leave behind a national security and public safety mission that I truly believed in.” He added, “I am even more disappointed to see what has happened to this office and the Department of Justice in just a few short months.”

While Blondi was stomping her feet at press conferences, fatass Tish James was about to walk before Halligan stepped in.
ALL DIMocRATS should have been fired in the Justice Department on day one.

It is the role of local federal prosecuters to file indictments, etc. not the US Attorney General. Bondi hired some to do it so I would say she did her job.

About half a dozen were fired for opposing Comey’s arrest.
So, Cleary was fired but the article says nothing about her. That tells me something, coming from MSN

Worked for Justice under Biden and is rumored to have gone after J6ers.
