Indiana Senate Republicans short of votes to redraw congressional maps

Indiana Senate Republicans say they do not have the votes to redraw the state congressional maps.

That is according to a spokesperson for the Indiana Senate president pro tempore Rodric Bray.

The statement came after months of debate on whether Indiana would join several other states in deciding to pursue mid-decade redistricting.

Both President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance have discussed the possibility of redistricting with Indiana lawmakers a number of times in the last few months.

Vance was most recently in Indiana two weeks ago, following his first visit in August.

State Democrats have continuously pushed back against the efforts to redistrict.

Gov. Mike Braun said he is confident Republicans will eventually have the votes.

"I am still having positive conversations with members of the legislature. I am confident the majority of Indiana Statehouse Republicans will support efforts to ensure fair representation in congress for every Hoosier," Braun said in a post on X.

It looks like the home state of Mike Pence and Richard Lugar is plagued with a RINO problem. Not to single out Indiana specifically but Midwestern and Rocky Mountain states that have been Republican for several generations also have embedded moderates. In the South, the problem is former Democrats who switched sides to the GOP when it became clear that their states were swinging away from the former allegiance to the Democratic Party.

Indiana has been plagued by RINOs for a long time, and they ALWAYS muck things up when something doesn’t benefit the deep state. It’s a constant source of frustration.

The Democrats and Rinos have been all over IN TV channels saying that redistricting is not necessary.

Thank you.

It appears we have squishes in a few red state legislatures. That would suggest the conservative senators need to keep a lower profile in terms of their conservatism. Think Mike Lee of Utah and Budd in NC.
