Lindsay Sandiford, 68, was arrested after arriving in Bali in 2012 when Indonesian authorities found cocaine worth €2.1 million in her suitcase.
A British drug-smuggling grandmother who has spent 12 years on death row in Indonesia will be sent home to the UK, the two countries announced on Tuesday.
Lindsay Sandiford, 68, has been imprisoned on Bali since 2012.
She was arrested at the resort island's airport after authorities found 3.8 kilogrammes of cocaine worth €2.1 million hidden in the lining of her suitcase. During the trial, Sandiford said she was forced to carry the drugs by a gang that threatened her children.
She was sentenced to die by firing squad and Indonesia’s highest court upheld it in 2013.
Bali high?
Just say no to drug s …. Smuggling
Entrapment by local polici to collect 'fines' is very common, but there are still places in tourist areas where you can buy magic mushroom shakes pizza and other things. I would never consume but it's there for those who want it.
Wonder if she’ll try it again? Probably but she’ll bypass Bali next time around.
“”Bali high?””
Bali Ha’i
May call you
Any night, any day.
In your heart
You’ll hear it call you:
“Come away, come away.”
If the court upheld her sentence to be executed, wonder why it wasn’t carried out...
Went to Bali once. When we landed and went through customs, our bags were searched by soldiers with AK47s. They opened my bag and asked me several questions about items I had. They weren’t messing around.
She is supposed to finish out her sentence in the UK.
Brits put one over on the Indonesians, then. Britain doesn't have the death penalty, so there's no way the sentence can be carried out there.
