President Trump unveiled new steps Thursday that he said would dramatically reduce the cost of fertility treatments and in vitro fertilization (IVF) — saying it would mean “many more beautiful American children.”
Trump, who vowed as a candidate last year to make IVF free through either an insurance mandate or government subsidy, announced two more modest initial steps to encourage employers to offer new supplemental fertility coverage while lowering the cost of the drugs involved.
“Effective immediately, for the first time ever, we will make it legal for companies to offer supplemental insurance plans specifically for fertility — that’s never been done before,” Trump said in the Oval Office.
“With what we signed, Americans will be able to opt in to specialized coverage, just as they get vision and dental insurance, they can get fertility insurance for the first time.”
Trump said his IVF initiatives would lead to “healthier pregnancies, healthier babies, and many more beautiful American children.”
Trump also announced that the drugmaker EMD Serono had agreed to list its fertility medication Gonal-f on the forthcoming TrumpRx website for “massive discounts” — as he strong-arms pharmaceutical giants to discount drugs to government programs and the uninsured to avoid large tariffs.
“In addition, the FDA will be working with the company to expedite review and approval of another common fertility IVF drug, and currently it’s selling in Europe. It’s Pergoveris,” Trump said.
“As a result of these actions, the per cycle cost of drugs used in IVF will fall by an estimated 73% for American consumers.”

Ugh.
Some committed couples have a difficult time making babies.
If a wanted child by responsible adults is the main goal, I don’t see anything wrong with this.
True. it’s not ‘traditional’, but Oh Well.
Many factors rendering people to become near sterile, are found in our modern, highly processed and preserved foods.
Why? We need pro-natal policies. Otherwise it’s infinite immigration.
IVF murders preborn babies.
Bad idea. Reallll bad idea. I pray he changes his mind.
People are wasting time going to college and then getting settled in a career. The median age for marriage today is 30 years for men and 28 years for women.
God creates life, it should be left up to Him, not man’s whims, which mucks things up too often.
It supports the philosophy that babies are a commodity. You can’t have such a philosophy outside of utilitarian ethics. Those ethics don’t end with a seemingly beneficial, voluntary choices such as IVF. They end with involuntary actions like government ordered euthanasia of the disabled.
It is also reduces the full nature of both men and women to being seen as secondary to their reproductive ability. Some will not understand that liberal abortion laws do the same thing.
“IVF murders preborn babies.”
Successful embryo implantation is when the “woman conceives”, and then it can be lost in normal pregnancies.
I just wish they would only fertilize as many eggs as they will implant. As is there are a lot of fertilized eggs (also known as babies) discarded or frozen.
I suspect one person does the medical IVF work.
How many manhours does it take?
Why can’t people who work 4,000 hours (M&F) a year afford say 10 manhours of some person’s time?
People could be trained to do medical specialty work in say two years of college.
Most of us don’t live in villages anymore. We don’t need to have a guy around that can deal with anything medical that might crop up.
We can break down medical work just as manufacturing was broken down.
For IVF work, a couple have time to go to a city and get specialized care.
For many young people, fresh out of High School, going to college is seen almost as a Rite Of Passage for young Americans.
That’s how I saw it too. It was a good excuse to move out of the family home. Leave on a high note and put some distance between us, as much I loved my family, I wanted more independence.
College is a very expensive way to accomplish that.
Some would rather join the military.
“I just wish they would only fertilize as many eggs as they will implant.”
I saw a $5,000 payment circa 2009 for what I believe was IVF treatment.
At that pricing level, couples will sacrifice embryos to maximize the chance that one course of treatment will be all that is necessary.
“Trump, who vowed as a candidate last year to make IVF free through either an insurance mandate or government subsidy”
“insurance mandate”
It’s not proper for some rich guy to tell me to buy a Cadillac or walk.
“government subsidy”
It’s not proper to pick the pockets of people so overeducated people can be paid big bucks for common tasks that could be learned in a few months.
Used to be.
Fewer young men are in college, especially at 4-year schools
Several embryos are implanted and then the "winner" is kept alive while the others are killed off, so yes, IVF murders preborn babies.
They can tell a child when he's old enough, "Your siblings were killed so your parents would only have to raise one of you".
Forcing someone who can't have children to pay for others to have children.
The same justification used to force taxpayers to pay for IVF will be used to justify paying for IVF for female prisoners and illegal aliens.
And it is just by chance they happened to be the one not flushed down the sink...that would really make you feel valued and cared for, wouldn't it? That your parents would have been just fine if it had been you discarded and another one of the embryos was the lucky one instead.
And learning you were probably conceived through a process where your father was in a room watching porn (lusting and cheating on your mother) to get the "specimen" for use in the conception.
