Maine’s two-term Democratic Gov. Janet Mills will run for the U.S. Senate seat held by veteran Republican Sen. Susan Collins next year, two people familiar with Mills’ plans said on Friday.
The development sets up a potential showdown between the parties’ best-known figures in a state where Democrats see a chance to gain a seat in their uphill quest for the Senate majority.
Mills is tentatively expected to announce her candidacy on Tuesday, according to the people, who insisted on anonymity to discuss plans they were not authorized to share publicly.
Mills was the top choice of national Democrats who have long tried to unseat Collins, who has held the seat since 1997. She was urged to run by party leaders including New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, the Senate minority leader.

Collins or Mills?
The ongoing vote fraud scandal may interrupt her path to the top however.
Sorry! Dup! Please Delete. My search must have been bad.
Not that Collins is great but Mills has indeed been a disaster.
Yeah, not a Collins fan, but what she has done (to Maine specifically) pales in comparison to Austin Powers Jr.
Mills is 77. Collins is 72. Senate or nursing home?
They got their top-tier candidate, something the GOP governors chicken out on. Think Sununu, Kemp, Youngkin and even that fat-ass from Jersey. No team players. They’re above it all when it comes to putting up the good fight while the democrats keep their eye on the prize.
At Least Paul LePage is going after a winnable house seat.
That LBGT money is pouring in no doubt.
I Bet that these clowns know how Ballots ended up in an amazon order.
I am seldom very sympathetic regarding Collins.
But it seems that voting 3/4 of the time for the DNC party machine isn’t enough for them.
They want 100 percent adherance.
Which we know by looking at how the D party reps vote, almost always 100 percent as a party machine block.
Our republic’s founders were quite prescient when it came to the dangers of political parties...
“” However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion. “

“There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”
-—President John Adams, the Second President of the USA, The Works of John Adams.
of course, the DNC runs along the lines of a Communist or Nazi party Central Committee....political parties unknown to our Founders. How they could see the future so clearly is, imho, amazing..
Mills will probably see Collins in court. What a douche.
There is not another Republican who could have held that seat since 1997.
Harris beat Trump by 6% in Maine.
Popeye is back in town! She’s term limited but still seeking revenge before leaving the stage.
Yup. No matter who ends up against the current senator, Collins is cooked.
She’s the cow that mooed, “I’ll see you in court!” to PDJT during the governor’s dinner early this year.
