After October 7, friends called me ‘filthy Zionist.’ Longtime colleagues refused to work with me. This isn’t criticism of Israel. It’s about making Jews pariahs.
After three months in a remote Amazonian village with no internet or phone signal, I returned to a small Colombian town on October 9, 2023—still in the rainforest, but now with internet—and checked social media for the first time. The jungle was still in my ears—squawking macaws, torrential rain, the low hum of a generator—when my screen filled with ima…

The spirit of antichrist, the energy source of the Left.
Back when the anti-Vietnam War crowd was doing their thing, it was cool to be Jewish.
What changed?
The only definition for “Zionism” is the establishment of the Jews’ homeland in the land of Israel. No other definition.
I’ve pressed the left on what they believe “Zionism” to mean and never once have I gotten a coherent answer out of them.
Remember, Kurt Waldheim, during his tenure as secretary general of the UN, pushed through Resolution 3379 back in 1875, which stated “that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination”, a false accusation that the left still pushes today.
Yep. Depends on who you ask.
‘Herzl’ Zionism is the attempt to replace the traditional religious definition of ‘who is a Jew’ with allegiance to a Westphalian nation-state. Big problem for both traditionalist and secular ethnics.

Never heard of that.
A straightforward view of Zionism from a religious viewpoint from Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi:

“Big problem for both traditionalist and secular ethnics.”
Weirdly, this problem mainly comes up from the anti-semitic neo-nazi right, and the islamo-facist left, not amongst 98% of aactual Jews.
Israel was a united Jewish nation state starting ~1000BC under King Saul, then King David who made the Jerusalem the capital. Zionism is no more than returning home from exile.
The Hareidim have a bizarre view of Zionism; they are against it. Pass.
Huge difference between anti-Zionists like Satmar and mainstream traditional Orthodoxy which is best described as non-Zionist. Rav Kook Religious Zionism is a modern innovation.
Hmm?
The Hareidim are not mainstream Orthodoxy.
No “non-Zionist” ought to live in Israel. Period.
Opus?
I’ve been told that those who engaged in founding a jewish homeland are “zionists” but the orthodox believe that can happen only after the 2nd coming and the re-building of the temple on the mount.
Ever hear of Musta’arabim and the Old Yishuv? Or the religious observance level of the Jews financed by Montefiore-Rothschild-Touro before secular Jews flooded into the Holy Land?
Zionism is the ‘sword and trowel’ to rebuild. As per Nehemiah
“When our enemies heard that we knew their scheme and that God had frustrated it, every one of us returned to his own work on the wall. 16 From that day on, half of my men did the work while the other half held spears, shields, bows, and armor. The officers supported all the people of Judah, 17 who were rebuilding the wall. The laborers who carried the loads worked with one hand and held a weapon with the other.“
One of Chevy Chase’s great lines on SNL’s Weekend Update was a fake quote from Sammy Davis, Jr. after that resolution passed: “What a breakthrough! Now I can hate myself.”
