PHOENIX – A massive fire at a Southern California oil refinery is bad news for Arizona drivers, who could see gas prices soar well over $4 per gallon.
“But hold your breath: 35 up to 95 cents a gallon increase is a possibility across, really, the western part of the United States.”
Welcome to Reno gas prices. Still averaging around $3.95. IIRC the lowest it has gone is about $3.24 and that didn’t last long.
Refinery fires happen. It took a lot of planning to get into this situation where they mean a cutoff of supply.
Nevada, gets all its gasoline from California. It’s been over $4 per gallon for years. Now it’ll be going higher...thanks California, every eff up you do impacts your immediate neighbors and the rest of the country. But self-awareness never enters the picture. When will sanity return to this state?
They get over $5/gallon in Silicon Valley.
The “deep green” eco-nuts have stopped the construction of a refinery in Arizona, about 40 miles east of Yuma for about 40 years. It is a travesty. the oil would come from Mexico.
Great. I’m getting ready to head to my Arizona winter quarters in a few days.
Meanwhile, here in CA, we’d kill for a $4 price. After some half-hearted efforts by the governor, I don’t perceive any action actually in progress to address the fact that we’re losing two refineries due to regulatory overburden, one this year, and one next. Don’t get me wrong: this state is not going to turn red next year, but I think there could be a pretty sizable impact on the midterms if, as predicted, prices here shoot up to between $8 and $12 as we lose 20% of our supply. This is a deep blue state, but most of the voters are mindless drones, not zealots, who are likely not going to appreciate it much when they can’t afford to drive to work
Yep
We all will suffer together
So try to get it built again. Trump is now the POTUS.
We are right behind you at about $3.80. Only AK, CA, HI, NV, OR, WA are higher than us.
Good thinkin. Need a repub gov
I was wondering why gas prices shot up about 30 cents a gallon . Glad I filled up last weekend for $2.66. Almost $3 a gallon this weekend. Cheapest within 2 miles is $2.89 except for the membership warehouse stores that are still in the $2.40s.
Where you at?
OK, since the reporter didn’t bother, I’ll fill in the blanks - it was a Chevron refinery, and it was in the jet fuel unit - so no real impact on gasoline production except for any shutdown needed to stabilize and isolate the damage.
“In This Together!”
.
Least no Masks or 6ft distancing!
Urban north Texas where we have to pay more for the blends. Gas is usually cheaper outside the EPA designated zone. For example, one county north it looks to be running about 20 cents a gallon cheaper.
You can’t expect to keep fuel prices down, when greenies and environmentalist continue to refuse the building of refineries or allowing the repair of existing refineries.
“California is currently facing challenges with oil refinery closures and has not established a clear plan for rebuilding or replacing them after incidents like fires. The state is balancing its climate goals with the need to address potential fuel shortages and rising gas prices, leading to a complex political situation.”
