Munich Airport in Germany was forced to close for almost seven hours overnight after a wave of drone sightings, the latest European aviation hub to shutter over unexplained drone flights.
A total of 17 flights were grounded shortly after 10 p.m. local time on Thursday, affecting nearly 3,000 passengers, the airport said in a statement.
In addition, 15 arriving flights were diverted to the German cities of Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Frankfurt, as well as Vienna in neighboring Austria, the statement said. Flight tracking website Flightradar showed several planes circling the airport at around 11pm local time before heading to other destinations.
The airport reopened at 5 a.m. local time when flight arrivals and departures were deemed safe, a call handler fielding passenger enquiries told CNN.
“Now everything has resumed. Some flights were cancelled but the airport has reopened. Since 5 a.m, all arrivals and departures are safe,” they said.

Munich is 500 miles from the sea and is SURROUNDED by NATO countries.
“Testing, testing. Aloha Snackbar!”
“ Munich is 500 miles from the sea and is SURROUNDED by NATO countries.”
*****************************************************
Damn Russians have obviously infiltrated those NATO countries, don’t cha know! /s
Out law drones, except of course for the military. /s. One of these time a pile of those drone gonna have weapons on them, the pieces are being moved into place, defenses being tested (and found lacking I’ll wager). Rough water ahead.
Stupid question: how do these things navigate?
“Outlaw drones....”
Some Chinese control chips could be smuggled in.
The rest of a drone can probably be made of parts found in other things.
“Stupid question: how do these things navigate?”
Starlink. And there is the answer to the source.
Is that a guess? I was expecting GPS or inertial navigation or some kind of optical navigation. I would think they were autonomous so they could not be electronically jammed.
“Testing, testing. Aloha Snackbar!”
Yes. “Somebody” phoned in a bomb threat to close down Oktoberfest for half a day. Abstemious Mennonites, no doubt.
Each drone has a human controller. They have a range of 5km to 15 km. All you need is the controller pad that comes with the drone and an iPhone or android. The controller can be at the end of the runway boundaries.
How big are these drones?
Why can’t they take them down and examine the wreckage?
Just a logical deduction. A whole lot of factors add up to this being the Occam’s Razor.
Several years back Musk hands over certain control of Starlink satellites to the Pentagon.
He does this even before it is announced that he “will be” putting up military birds for the Pentagon.
We know he is absolutely working on secret projects for the government no one knows about aside from the SpaceX projects. I suspect there is a whole drone contract.
His Starlink footprint coverage is so saturated that receiver antenna location is accurate to the very foot.
Uplink/downlink data transfer is almost instant, Which is what would be required to control these drones in real time.
No lateral radio input/output to and from these drones can be detected. >Which means control is being beamed and transferred vertically to and from satellite rather than the formal lateral radio control of the past<.
All government sources are silent about them. Meaning they are ours.
Trump tells us simply that he knows what they are and that we have nothing to worry about and they are safe. Meaning they are ours.
Far too many indicators point to this arrangement and reality.
One aspect from the Munich cops (last night)....they way the drones (using night-vision)....lot bigger than anything they’d seen before and has a larger wing-span.
Maybe highly advance Chinese drones ($$$)...but I’m guessing it’s an Iranian-built ($) with lesser range.
The one thing I’ve noticed...you only get reports after dark. Most have some type of Xmas-lighting.
Eventually...Russians may have drones with explosives....to advance further to chaos.
They will eventually have AI embedded in drones, so they can automatically be programmed.
