All this talk about redrawing congressional districts overlooks the big picture. In other words, the census will end up doing in 2030 what some GOP state legislatures are trying to do before 2026. This is from Tom Rogers:
Much has been written about the various attempts to create more Republican House districts through extreme gerrymandering. This column recently discussed a pending Supreme Court case that could strike down the Voting Rights Act’s remedy of creating majority-minority districts and result in the creation of even more Republican House seats.
However, none of these actions affect presidential elections, which are decided in the Electoral College. Electoral College votes reflect the total number of House seats a state has, as determined by the census, conducted every ten years. The next census, which will take place in 2030, will award some states more House seats and take away House seats from others, based on the gains and losses of the population of each state.
So the 2028 presidential election will not be affected by any new census count, but the 2032 presidential election will. Based on a close look at population trends, the upcoming census will not bring good news for the Democrats.
Not bring good news indeed. Getting to 218 in the U.S. House or 270 in The Electoral College is going to be hard for Democrats.
It's the numbers, stupid. Or more specifically, the numbers of moving vans leaving blue zones and going to red states.
The usual suspects will lose congressional seats the next time around. They are California, New York, and Illinois. The same will be gaining seats, such as Texas, Florida, and South Carolina. What's the result of these losses and gains? The losses are blue and the gains are red.

RE: The losses are blue and the gains are red.
The all important question is this — WHO are the ones leaving the blue states for the red states?
Are those migrating out of blue states conservatives or liberals?
If it’s the later, I don’t see how this is a gain for conservatives. The trend will only make the red states bluer.
As long as those that those moving from blue to red vote red. Otherwise, it’s the same Californication that happened to many western states.
Where I live liberals are moving to flee from the crime of the city across the river, they created. Don’t bring your politics with you.
What happened to Florida?
Exactly
Actually a couple states split their vote based on districts voting. So this could impact the Presidential races too.

Keep in mind if GOP controls the Presidency in 2030 they get to choose to not count illegals. That will be the biggest impact. Cali will lose a ton of seats!
Check out the budgets for all 50 states.
What we have are likely 50 MAGA red states governed by 50 Deep State controlled state governments.
Don’t believe me?
Look. At. The. Budgets.
Especially the outyears.
Deep State has to steal elections in the so-called blue states for very good reason.
1) if the blatantly rigged 2020 census get fixed....or they are not able to massive rig it again by deliberately undercounting multiple red states yet again in 2030.
2) if illegal aliens are not counted in the census...this was not fully adjudicated by the SCOTUS last time. If they rule that illegals cannot be counted, blue states will lose a whole bunch of reps and electoral votes and federal dollars right there
3) the Baby Boom generation from which Democrats draw a large amount of their support is going to be little more than half its current size in 10 years based on the actuarial tables. They are currently 60-80.
then there are millions of Leftugees fleeing blue states for red states in addition to all the above. This is why Democrats are so desperate to import tens of millions of new voters.
Not sure how much comfort we can take from this. Virginia, North Carolian, Georgia and Arizona used to be reliably Red. Then the moving vans from Blue states started moving in. Is going to be a battle. Florida is the right example of how to keep a state Red as the Blue moving vans come in.
COVID, and Governor DeSantis’ response to it.
Since the census is conducted by the Supreme Court, I expect they’ll continue to count everyone inside the gates. /s
“As long as those that those moving from blue to red vote red. Otherwise, it’s the same Californication that happened to many western states.”
Liberals are vile, non thinking creatures. They will infest, then overrun the red states in a strident effort to turn them blue, because it’s the “virtuous” thing to do.
Do the census sooner.
It used to be mostly Democrats moving to red states and turning them blue.....Think of all those Californians who moved to Portland and Seattle and Denver and turned Oregon, Washington and Colorado blue and almost turned Arizona blue....think of all the New Yorkers and New Jerseyites who almost tipped Florida blue.
That is over now. The trend in recent years has been in the opposite direction. More Conservatives have been giving up on places like California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, etc. They've played a huge part it turning Florida back very firmly to red and they look like they came just in time to save Arizona before it tipped blue. The same process appears to be helping with Nevada turning it more and more red. It may tip back to red soon. A lot of Conservative Californians played a big part in returning Ted Cruz to the Senate over fake Mexican/drunk driving Irish Bob who was backed by big money from California and New York.
That’s the problem, the people leaving their overly expensive state because it’s too expendive move somewhere else and vote to make their new home overly expensive. Partly why wherever I move to from NJ I somewhat fear that feeling of not being too welcome.
South Carolina and Texas are also more conservative, not less.
Next generation imigrants have been educated and many are tradesmen that heavily lean GOP.Every tradesman I’ve ever hired sets up his conservative radio show before beginning work. They have college educated children and understand the ghetto plantation and avoid it.
