This is the third press conference regarding the shooting at the Mount Blanc Michigan LDS Church
This behavior has become overly common when there is a major tragedy.
Such behavior is reason #1 to terminate the employment of a large percentage of federal, state, and local government workers.
Let me add that the only thing worthwhile about this press conference are the many comments posted by people like FReepers who had this to say:
“They told us what we already know “This was evil.” “There’s no place for this in our society.” “It was an act of violence.” Etc...
The rest was a big old pat on the back for government agencies.”
This happens (the butt kissing) because we have become a society fueled predominantly by politics and connections - not by merit and integrity. When I was a kid and watched television shows in which the employees were sucking up to their bosses I thought it was just overstated television stereotyping. I didn’t think anyone trying to accomplish a job and pick the best people for that job would ever be so shallow as to not see through that behavior, let alone reward it.
I guess I saw the world as I thought it was, not as it actually is.
In one of the “press conferences” yesterday, it seemed that the main speaker (some public official or whatever) was almost scolding the press for asking questions, and she set them straight to point out that the real reason for the news conference was to thank all of the LEO and first responders, etc., who had been involved so far. I couldn’t even watch it. Not to disrespect first responders, etc., but that is their job. The endless praise does not answer the questions that citizens have, and is not useful to anyone’s understanding of the incident or situation, whether in a micro- or macro- analysis of the problem of gun violence. JMHO
“the speakers spend almost all of their time patting the other law enforcement agencies on the back”

For doing the job they are trained and paid to do. These press conferences have become platforms for self-promotion.
“””she set them straight to point out that the real reason for the news conference was to thank all of the LEO and first responders, etc., who had been involved so far.””””
There is no need for all of this grandstanding. The local police chief could have simply sent an email to the media advising there was nothing new to report.
Instead, the grandstanders bring the Governor and many others to the stage to say “there is nothing new to report”.
Instead of grandstanding those on the stage should be at the church supervising the debris or at the office supervising the digital media.
I agree.
“””For doing the job they are trained and paid to do. These press conferences have become platforms for self-promotion.”””
And if they have all this time to self-promote, then maybe their job should be eliminated.
Agree.
if they do break their arms patting themselves on the back at least they can still kiss each other’s asses.
