Trump calls on NATO countries to stop buying Russian oil to end Ukraine war
CBS News ^ | Sep 13, 2025 | AP

President Trump said he believes the more than three-year war in Ukraine would end if all NATO countries stopped buying oil from Russia and placed tariffs on China for its purchases of Russian petroleum.

Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social on Saturday a letter purportedly sent to NATO in which he said he is "ready to do major Sanctions on Russia" on the condition that all NATO countries stop buying Russian oil. The president said the military alliance's commitment to winning the war in Ukraine "has been far less than 100%" and the purchase of Russian oil by some members is "shocking."

Trump “covering his six” domestically against the still-alive massive US deep state, neocons and Atlanticists, by bloviating about sanctions - while at the same time, showing EU hypocrisy and weakness and waiting for their collapse.

Thank you for the link! Missed it.

It’s hard to go back to the headlines with the specter of Kirk’s death looming, not going to lie. He was always so thoughtful when unpacking foreign conflicts and policy. Including the super polarizing ones like in Middle East.

The world is so broken. But America now especially. 😢

Is that the same Trump guy that believes Gazans are starving and need to be fed by the USA?

Gazans allegedly would rather starve than release ~20 hostages kept in violation of international law!

I don’t know if it’s simply placating the neo’s as much as his instinctual aversion to the trade imbalance. He wants our allies to buy American oil and has.

--- "...on the condition that all NATO countries stop buying Russian oil."

Problem, as the EU's official stance is "end of 2027."

"The EU will gradually and effectively stop the import of Russian gas and oil by the end of 2027, under a legislative proposal put forward by the European Commission today. "

Commission proposes gradual phase-out of Russian gas and oil imports into the EU European Commisson, 16 June 2025.

Trump has two daughters and grandkids by both of them. Ivanka is married to a Jew with strong ties to Israel (Jared) and the other (Tiffany) is married to a man of Arab - Lebanese descent. (Michael Boulos.) And in general, Trump has never been one to devalue Arab lives even as he pursues a Zionist outlook. But yes he has both Jews and Arabs represented in the Trump family now.

The billionaire Trump and the $200,000/year+ DC warmongers need to realize that doing without is the way of life for about half of the USA and most of Russia.

With the recent announcement of the massive China/ Russian Siberian pipeline, Russia no longer needs the EU buying their energy- China will gladly take it all.

The West blew up their lifeline, the Nordstream,…and will now never get it back….they can thank senile Joe.

Beware , the Siberian pipeline to China is projected to be up and running by late 2028 ( maybe sooner). The EU is a ship of fools…..maybe they can rebuild the Nordstream on their own dime, try to convince Vlad after the war to reopen the Nordstream supply…….maybe….that would be a hoot!

I saw a quote from the president of OMV Petrom, the Romanian oil company. They get their oil through a pipeline that runs across Ukraine. The Ukrainian government has been telling them since the war began they needed to transition off of Russian oil, which they get at a discount. The president responded with, “We are not interested in changing our sources.”

Then the Ukrainians started hitting the pumping stations in Russia. Because, in Russia it’s Russian oil. Once it crosses the border, it’s Rumanian oil. Bit of a technicality there.

Rumania and I think one or two other landlocked countries got a pass from NATO on the oil early on but were told to make other arrangements. Which, they apparently haven’t done. Talk about sticking your head in the sand...

The thread seems to hing on President Trump and the EU, as one thinks about NATO.

What's missing is the second-largest military in NATO after the US, which is Turkey. One finds:

"Tupras, Türkiye's largest oil refiner, has resumed purchases of Russian Urals crude oil, trading sources said, marking a shift from its earlier halt on imports following strengthened U.S. sanctions.

"According to three trading sources speaking to Reuters and shipping data reviewed once again by Reuters, Tupras restarted imports in April after Urals crude prices dropped to their lowest levels since 2023—comfortably below the G7 nations' price cap of $60 per barrel."

Additionally, Russia is selling more than oil. One reads further:
"When examining the top US imports from Russia, several key products stand out as significant contributors to the trade relationship between the two countries. As per Russia customs export data for 2024, among the biggest products that the US imports from Russia are fertilizers, metals and minerals such as iron, steel, and precious metals, as well as coal. These imports play a vital role in various industries across the United States and underscore the interdependence of the global economy. "

Source: US-Russia Bilateral Trade: What products does the US import from Russia? US Import Data, 13 March 2025.

It is my impression that President Trump is putting other NATO members into a rhetorical bind, after they pressed him about more sanctions. What seems certain is that supplies of oil and gas, as well as other products cannot be wholly and quickly "cut off" without assuring other sources. This has been a game of the EU and Rutte, pressuring President Trump, and I suspect he has lobbed the proverbial ball back into their political court.

Ten bucks says the EU, specifically, will complain about how difficult it will be for THEM to comply while sitting around the desk telling US to do more to comply.

More idiocy from NATO member nations. The majority of them, when they joined could never cough up the required percentage of their GDP to fund their own defense, and sucked America dry. We ended up paying for their defense since NATO’s inception. Some even now, still aren’t up to the 2% funding they agreed to in 2014. Germany was one of the worse. They only came up to the 2% in January of 2024. AP reported in August 2025 that as of this year, all NATO member countries should finally reach the 2%. And now that’s been raised to 5%. How many decades will it take for them to reach that level? Most of us will be dead by then no doubt. And yet, these same asshats who want to perpetuate the war against Russia, are still buying oil and oil products from the country they want to go to war with. Complete insanity.

Putin is not in the war to the last barrel of oil, but to the last Russian.

China knows what they’re doing that’s for sure.
——————
Been that way for at least a decade. They built up their Belt road, financing “ improvements “ to African, ME, and SA countries…taking their resources cheap.

When I was working in Colombia, the Chinamen stuck out in the Amazon mining communities. They were buying unrefined Gold and metal ores from the mines and shipping them back to China for refining.

With the world’s Central Banks massively buying up Gold ( finally) to back their declining paper currencies, they are at least a decade behind the West. China has much, much more Gold ( and metals) than they say. Estimated to be at 40,000 tons, to the US’s 8,000 tons ( maybe much less, Trump refuses to audit our Gold reserves).

The Brics is stating a 40 percent Gold backing for their currencies. The Sauds are following, as are other countries….the USD outlook is dismal ( down 11 percent since January alone).

The USD cycle is turning,no different from every single paper currency in history. It is just time.

The European nations which demand that we protect Ukraine are busy buying Russian oil, as are China and India - but at least the latter two don’t care if we protect Ukraine or not.
