Former U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo withdraws as candidate for Colorado Congressional District 8

Former Rep. Yadira Caraveo has withdrawn her candidacy for Colorado Congressional District 8, the district in which she was elected in 2023. She was the first representative for that district, as it was newly created before the 2022 election due to Colorado's growing population.
Caraveo made the withdrawal announcement on Friday afternoon, saying that she believed she faced a lot of resistance to her candidacy due to the "stigmatization of mental health in America." Read her full statement below.
Caraveo, a Democrat, lost her seat in CD8 to Republican Rep. Gabe Evans in November 2024. Evans was one of only a handful of Republicans nationwide to flip seats held by House Democrats in last fall's election.
Caraveo was Colorado's first Latina member of Congress. Before representing Colorado on Capitol Hill, she represented the 31st district in the Colorado House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023.
Caraveo released the following statement: This was not a decision I made lightly. It was a privilege representing the 8th district in Congress and working for the people of the district, Colorado, and the country. Unfortunately, I faced very strong resistance to my candidacy this cycle due almost entirely to the stigmatization of mental health in America. I hope that one day we will see more acceptance and understanding of illnesses like depression, and that leaders at all levels will be able to support those in need in actions and not just words. I want to personally thank everyone who voted for me, donated to my campaign, believed in me, volunteered for me, worked for me, and supported me. I urge all my supporters to continue fighting for change.
She didn't represent me, because I don't speak Spanish.
Where are all the people who dont accept and understand depression? Where are all these people? I have never met one in my entire life raging against depressed folks.
No party is mentioned, a demonrat obviously.
Is she has been diagnosed with clinical depression, then I don’t see how she can perform her duties. That can be a very debilitating condition for weeks at a time.
They’re all registered Republicans looking to destroy all of those depressed Democrats. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told. < /sarcasm >
She is also a physician. Apparently staff members had to talk her out of suicide twice. Real depression is a heavy burden
Sadly, she seems incapable of consistently, or reliably functioning in executive role. Medicine or politics. No stigmatization....just deciding who is best for the job. Best wishes for her.
It happened to a politician named Tom Eagleton back in 1972.
Senator Eagleton was selected as a possible Vice Presidential running mate by George McGovern.
Just 18 days later, Eagelton dropped out, after it was discovered that he had undergone treatment for depression and had received Electroshock Treatment.
McGovern, who’s first VP choice would have been Ted Kennedy, did not know how to deal with this now public info about Tom getting bouts of Shock Treatment. So, he was out.
Back then, there was very little vetting that was formally done before offering someone a position on the ticket.
Is this what self-deportation looks like?
What is she claiming is the depression issue that is “attacking” her?
Or is it more like trans issues?
I wonder if she’s self-medicating?

Good! The only reason that she beat out Barbara Kirkmeyer during the 2022 election was due to the damn Libertarian spoiler vote.
Now Barb’s running for governor.
Hopefully she will win over surfer dude.
