Politicians and influencers who 'exaggerate' how volatile the country is by spreading misinformation risk 'real world' escalations in violence, one of the country's most senior police officers warned.
Gavin Stephens, chair of the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC), said those with influence passing comment on the state of the UK 'should think about how they can reduce tensions'.
A total of 3,081 protests have come to the attention of police across the UK from June 1 to August 31, up from 2,942 during the same period last year, and just 928 in summer 2023.
Mr Stephens said this year's disorder - which has included protests about asylum hotels, Palestine Action, and Defend Our Juries - had put 'chronic' pressure on police forces, which has 'sustained' throughout the entire summer.
Mr Stephens declined to refer to any politician by name when asked about the impact of commentary from the likes of Nigel Farage on policing.
The Reform UK leader is understood to be in the US this week, apparently to speak with the Trump administration about freedom of speech following the case of Lucy Connolly, the wife of a Tory councillor, who was jailed for her hate-tweets about asylum seekers.
But Mr Stephens told reporters: 'Anybody in a leadership position should think about how we can reduce and diffuse tensions and not sow division.'
He added: 'It's clear to all of us that we can see more community tension and more division. And I think we all have a responsibility, policing included, to set the tone.
'I think we all want to live in places where we can be safe and where we feel safe, and I think everybody has a responsibility in that regard.'
He called on those in 'a position of power and influence', to be 'very careful'

Hopefully they have a peaceful transition to conservative (I don’t mean tories) power. If not , the pitchforks are inevitable.
British police are a rude joke anymore.
Sir Robert Peel would hang his head in shame at what they’ve become.

I see we’re not the only country that has an entrenched bureaucratic class that thinks their role is to decide who the people should and shouldn’t vote for.
Top cops are political appointments and they will state the position of the state.
should think about how they can reduce tensions’.

It's not their job to protect the people. Their job is to protect the state.
So would Emma Peel, for that matter

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to call them Gestapo agents.
Awhile back an autistic English girl said that a female UK cop looked like a lesbian. The British police responded in force, and hauled the poor, crying girl off to jail.
Revolutions have started for less.

Well *that* is real news even if the statement is false.
It could be that within ten years Britain will devolve into explosive violence or will submit to Sharia law.
In either case we will have to look for another ally.
“Dundee Gavin” Stephens should get down on his knees and worship at the altar of his Musloid masters’ private parts.
I wonder if he allows his wife and daughters to service his Muzzie masters?
Tommy Robinson organizing a major protest event in London on Saturday September 13th.
Surprised the police official didn’t bring Tommy up.
But the big problem as I see it is the UK wants to recognize a Palestinian state later this month Israel is warning countries like France, the UK and Canada not to do this like they are planning.
The “Long Arm Of Israel” can do covert things so Starmer is in for trouble.
The US government is also pressuring these governments Rubio talked to the French foreign minister today to object.
Balls! said Gavin Stephens.
If I had two, I’d be a man!

Labour sees the Reform party gaining on them. So a good way to cement the UK Muslim vote would be to recognize a Palestinian state.
It’s just that simple. And just that disgusting.
Right, “spreading misinformation” and creating “tension” are what is causing the Brit commies problems, not them jailing people when they get off of planes for what they tweeted or trying to violate Americans’ 1st Amendment rights from the UK because they don’t like what’s being written on the Internet. The UK needs a revolution. Robinson is the one to do it. Farage is a squish.

This resistance to reality is what is going to finish England.
Labour has a left-wing revolt led by Jeremy Corbyn underway with their own political party.
