LOL!
Imagine thinking that Congolese cannibals and Pakistani child rapers are the planet's best and brightest people.
I don’t believe that. As amusing a story as it is, the Nazis didn’t force anyone to learn German. Yes, there was training of translators and interpreters, as they were in short supply, especially with Russian and Polish.
My grandfather was an interpreter for Russian in the war. He had learned it, however, long before the Nazis came to power. As a tradesman in lumber, he was very valued, for he could negotiate with the Soviet business partners from the mid-1920 onward perfectly.
What constitutes a nation's culture is elusive, very much depends on the culture of the observer, and is a subtle mix of attitudes, behavioural characteristics and actions which are common but never universal across that nation's population.
What I will say is that as an Englishman now in my ninth decade, all the virtues and vices of 'English culture' are still very much alive and kicking, however much may have superficially changed.
Ah, I cannot say how grateful I am for your words, Winniesboy😀
As I have no close British friends, I always have to rely on information gathered by bloggers, or by reading between the lines in the mainstream media (as far as this is possible with the autism.
(By the way, the latter is the reason why I don’t travel anymore- the possibility of misunderstandings is simply too large, when my autistic behaviour produces another „barrier“ between me and the others, on top of the cultural differences).
The English culture I grew up with was William, Biggles and Wodehouse coupled with the adventurer Younghusband. It changed
Are you sure?
