REDDING, Calif. — A vehicle struck a small mountain lion early Tuesday morning on northbound Interstate 5, just past the Oasis Road exit, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The crash occurred around 3:15 a.m. and involved a white Mazda SUV. Emergency crews, including Redding Fire Department and CHP units, responded quickly to the scene. A tow truck was called to remove the vehicle from the center divide.

No major injuries were reported. The mountain lion, which appeared to be a younger or smaller cougar, was found deceased in the roadway.

Let the puns commence!

They should charge the driver. Deliberately hitting a mountain lion is catamount to murder.

They’ll probably let the driver go. There’s an escape claws in the law.

Well, except for the cat. It’s dead.

Poor thing had 4 lives used already before he took the 5.

There are regional names for these cats. Jaguars are more South American, in North America we have Pumas aka Mountain Lions and cougars but they are pumas.

Then...

The mountain lion's father showed up.

And, ate the driver.
