Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia advocated for the abolition of property taxes and described health insurance as a big "scam."
"We need to completely abolish property taxes. It forces us to pay ‘rent’ to the government on property that we own, but if we don’t pay property taxes, the property that we own gets taken away from us. That should never happen in a free country," Greene declared in a post on X.
"Secondly, health insurance is a giant scam that has become completely unaffordable. And it doesn’t make any sense and I don’t know anyone, and I mean anyone, that supports the current healthcare system in the United States," she continued.

Feds can ask the states to lower the take a little bit and they’ll take care of it (tariff’s, etc.). If they don’t want to play, they don’t get any of the $$$.
I don't see where any of this is wrong.
Catastrophic health insurance is all that should be needed, and as it is that would still be quite high, given specific cancer drugs, for example, are priced at exorbitant amounts per pill.
Obamacare itself probably didn’t win any votes and may have lost some. The lying blather about Obamacare was a huge success.
Wow! It’s like MTG is channeling z3n!
So your solution is to rent?
——————
Depends on what your objectives are, and your location. Renting has some advantages speaking strictly from a “ money in, money out “ ledger.
Freedoms associated with home ownership are many, but realize home ownership is today not to be viewed as an “ investment “, larger gains to be made are out there. Home ownership is also not a liquid “ investment “.
Best to view house ownership as Shelter, not an investment. The 2008 housing crash wiped out many….and recent statistics show a huge housing slowdown down, maybe time for the cycle to repeat?
All that said, abolishing property tax would most certainly boost housing sales, more renters would become house owners.
I think FL will be the first to eliminate property taxes and other states will follow.
FL with no income tax, cant elimnate property tax
Sales tax maybe.
“...property taxes and described health insurance as a big “scam.”
Property tax receipts are the main source of revenue for most local governments in the U.S. They are used to fund schools, police and fire departments, road construction and repairs, libraries, water and sewer departments, and other local services that benefit the community. This is not the 18th century when you went out back to urinate and defecate in a dugout hole.
Health insurance was nothing more than a co-op to cut consumer costs. It was used in the 60’s and 70’s to assist patients by making them follow a particular doctor so he accepted lowered costs to keep the business. But, like so many things, the government found a way to make it a tool. Schools are another. With luxuries they provide comes a cost.

“”Property taxes is the modern-day equivalent of making us serfs.””
Exactly as it was intended to do, while government grifts off of the “wealth” of those that either inherit wealth or that work for their living. A vast, ongoing redistribution of wealth. And don’t even start with the “estate taxation”... ie double taxation, government scam.
And health insurance stopped being beneficial when working individuals stopped being able to acquire affordable-yet-good health insurance through their employers. It used to work fine, but that had to change. Nothing is allowed to work or succeed when leftists in government have control. Obamacare fixed health insurance right up right good. Those employee premiums skyrocketed. At the same time, millions of illegals were (and still are) being given free healthcare, along with free everything else.. without having to lift a finger, much less having to “work” for it. Yet another vast redistribution of wealth by government.
All of this government grifting has literally screwed the US taxpayer almost to death (only thing sure in life is death and taxes). MTG is right but I serviously doubt that she will be able to change any of it. If so, good for her. But I won’t be holding “my” breath for that dream to come true.
Sure they can. And it’s being seriously discussed.

I would be in favor of making health insurance portable and not tied to your employer by allowing people to join groups like AARP for Medicare supplements, have employers contribute or pay the premiums but if you quit or get laid off then you can keep your insurance and not have to use COBRA
Reform medical liability judgments which won’t happen and force healthcare providers to publish the costs prior to service being rendered
Healthcare shouldn’t have anything to do with employment.
It’s all about bleeding you dry. As long as people exist, you won’t be able to change it. Greed consumes every society eventually.
When she’s right, she right.
Renting? I got eleven years of free rent courtesy of your tax dollars!

The current health insurance system was created to be a complete disaster by design under Obamacare. It’s the entire point, to collapse the system so that we put single-payer socialism in its place.
