Zelenskyy warned 'wear a suit' before White House meeting with Trump after fiery clash

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to head to the US to meet with Donald Trump and critics have warned him to wear a suit this time around, following the spectacular fallout with the US president and Vice President JD Vance during his last trip to the White House.

The Ukrainian president was not invited to Trump and Putin’s Alaska summit on Friday, in which the leaders failed to agree on a ceasefire or peace deal to end the war in Ukraine. But Zelenskyy said he had a “long and substantive” conversation with Trump early Saturday and that they would “discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war” on Monday, when he is set to arrive at the White House.

It comes as the chilling details of what Trump told Zelensky after meeting Putin in Alaska are revealed.

Zelenskyy accused of being 'disrespectful' if he doesn't wear suit.

Some have speculated that Zelenskyy has been asked to wear a suit as one of the conditions for his upcoming meeting with Trump.

“The White House has informed the Ukrainian delegation that Zelensky MUST wear a suit or there will be no meeting!,” one commenter wrote on X. The post continued: “Bravo White House. It’s a formal meeting, and the presidency of the U.S. is an institution that demands the highest level of formality!”

Others also demanded that Zelenskyy wear a suit. “Hopefully Zelensky wears a suit this time, and says ‘THANK YOU,’ and doesn’t have outrageous demands…” one wrote on the social media platform.

“There should be a @Polymarket bet on Zelensky wearing a suit next Monday (or not),” one suggested.

From the article: ...critics have warned him to wear a suit this time around, following the spectacular fallout with the US president and Vice President JD Vance...

It wasn't the meeting with President Trump and JD Vance. It was that Zelensky shows who he really answers to, and is being told to make it less obvious.

I’m thinking a “Women want me, fish fear me” T-shirt and a freshly engraved Dokken tattoo across the front of his neck.

Showing less judgement and decorum than a 15 year old interviewing for a job at White Castle will let the world know who he is.

I’m old school like you. He needs to wear a tie. Anything less is a sign of disrespect. There are certain T.V. personalities, like Hannity, I won’t watch any more because of that. The guy gets paid millions a year then one day decides it’s asking too much for him to dress for the occasion. Of course there are lots of reasons to not watch Hannity, but that was the final straw for me.

Well, Hannity did wear a suit and tie when he interviewed the president the other night after the summit.

The bottom line is that this is a test. If Zelensky is unwilling to honor a simple request to wear a suit and tie by his host, then Trump knows he can’t be trusted to honor the terms of any agreement.

Anyone who believes that the problem of Zelinski's visit was the fact that he was not wearing a suit or that he was "disrespectful" has drunk too much Trump Kool Aid.

That fiasco was an ambush, cynically calculated and deliberately implemented on international television by bullies disguised as statesman, to deepen the humiliation. Its purpose was not to maintain the dignity of the White House, that was waived by President Trump when he unceremoniously evicted president Zelinski from the premises because Zelinski had too much grit, and too much patriotism to submit to Trump's demands and would not acknowledge Trump's transparent distortions.

The dignity of the White House was lost in the indignity of the host's ignominious treatment of his guest. Never in our history has a President of the United States defiled the sacred ground of the White House with such a wretched display of rudeness.

Winston Churchill appeared to Franklin Roosevelt in the White House in the nude and famously quipped, "the Prime Minister of Great Britain is nothing to hide from the president United States." Zelinski can wear the best garment from Savile Row or a Suit of Lights and it will make no difference because Trump is bent not on maintaining the dignity of the White House but of shaming Zelinski into accepting a very bad deal-a deal which must be accepted only if it is made palatable by a very real guarantee of Ukraine's sovereignty.

Zelensky was disrespectful on many levels. His wardrobe was just one example. The rolling of the eyes and the open argumentativeness with Trump on Trump’s turf was deliberate on his part and disrespectful. As VP Vance pointed out, the place for that kind of discussion was behind closed doors.

And Trump was right to point out that Zelensky owed a debt of gratitude to America for its assistance, without which his country would have fallen long ago. If Ukraine didn’t need our support, Zelensky wouldn’t have been there meeting with Trump in the first place.

>>”Trump is bent not on maintaining the dignity of the White House but of shaming Zelinski into accepting a very bad deal”

Nobody’s forcing Zelensky to make any deal that he doesn’t want to. If he wants to go it alone, he’s free to do so. But he can’t and knows it. That’s not Trump’s fault, it’s just the hard reality.

Trump is bent on prioritizing American interests. There’s a compelling argument to be made that it’s in America’s interest to ensure that an independent Ukraine continues to exist. I believe that and so does President Trump. But it’s not in America’s interests to fund an endless conflict that’s been locked in a state of stalemate for three years, and is killing 100s of thousands with no end in sight.

It’s a shame that the weakness of the previous administration virtually ensured Russia would invade and seize the eastern portions of Ukraine. But preventing it would have been a lot easier than reversing it is. The only way to retake those territories is with direct U.S. involvement in the conflict. That’s a war few Americans want, myself included.

Ukraine is free to continue fighting if they so choose, but they will never retake those territories on their own and we’re not about to retake it for them. It’s better that Trump make Zelensky understand that now so he can act accordingly.

What’s important is whether Saint Volodymyr keeps his pants on during the meeting.

The conundrum that frustrates the peace we all want is not an unrealistic demand by a Zelinski to liberate districts occupied by Russia, rather it is the question whether 1) Putin will make peace by tolerating an American guarantee of Ukraine's security, and 2) Trump will grant a meaningful guarantee of Ukraine's sovereignty.

If Trump knows that Putin will not make such an offer, or if Trump knows that he himself is not willing to make such an offer, all the rest of this is theater designed to condition the world to blame Zelinski and Ukraine and extricate Trump.

On the other hand, if those two conditions are met there will be a settlement.

We shall see

With 200+ Billion of our taxpayer money, that retarded midget can certainly afford a decent suit to visit our President.
