With less than 24 hours to go before he meets Donald Trump again, Volodymyr Zelensky has hailed the president's "historic decision" to offer Ukraine security guarantees if a peace deal is reached with Russia. It's unclear exactly what shape this support might take, but Trump envoy Steve Witkoff today suggested the US and its partners could offer "Article 5 like language" - reflecting Article 5 of the Nato agreement that states an armed attack on one member country would be considered an attack on all members.

No way do I want a single drop of American blood shed for the corrupt Ukrainians or the corrupt Russians.
Russia violated the Budapest memorandum in 2014 with its annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea.[6][7] As a response, the United States, United Kingdom, and France provided Ukraine with financial and military assistance, and imposed economic sanctions on Russia, while ruling out “any direct interventions to avoid a direct confrontation with Russia”.[6]

Nobel Peace Prize. Liberals cry.
Good? Its not good. No way we should be providing security guarantees to the Ukraine. That in effect makes them a member of NATO. NO thanks.
And Putin agreed to it! Start shining up that Nobel Prize for Trump.
NO! No! No! We cannot get sucked into another Vietnam!
Not good if Z man gets only a promise in exchange for Putin gobbling up more Ukraine land. Promises made and broken with utter disregard.
Exactly. If the European Union wants to buy the weapons from the U.S. to help that country defend itself, let them pay up front for the equipment they need to do it. No more American freebies for the continuation of another proxy war with Russia. America first. America security first.

Well said.
Thanks

“NO! No! No! We cannot get sucked into another Vietnam!”
Not happening since Putin won’t agree to any wording that represents the Neocon spin on things...at least if he doesn’t want to hang from a lamp post.
“ This sounds very good. Smart move.”

Yes, Frenchie, some neocon has advised him to SHIFT TO FLATTERY MODE with Trump. Smart? Maybe, we’ll see.

Exactly. Must have been something China suggested to Putin
Absolutely ZERO chance that this is true.
Such an agreement is nearly the same as NATO membership...
It won’t happen.
Putin will demand a greatly reduced Ukrainian force that is not a threat of any kind to Russia.
No NATO “peacekeepers” either...none.
This is all a setup to allow the US an easy escape from
this $hitshow.
The EU will have to do it alone if they want it so bad.
Well... you are very selfish and ungrateful.
Ukrainian troops helped America in Irak. They bled for America..
Over 6,000 Ukrainian service members participated in military operations in Iraq and Kuwait over the course of the war. The deployment included a peak presence of approximately 1,600 to 1,700 soldiers at any one time, with the total cumulative number reaching over 6,000 due to troop rotations between 2003 and 2008. About 20 Ukrainian troops were killed, more than 50 severely injured.
Don’t tell me you would prefer the corrupt Russians in the Kremlin to dictate the world order with their ultra-close allies Islamic Iran, Commie North Korea and communist China?
Russia just recognized the Talibans. Russia continue to support Hamas and Hezbollah. Russia is right now harboring corrupt and disgraced former President of Syria. Russia and Tucker have also harshly condemned Israel for their Gaza operation.
ALSO:
“Ukraine was there when the U.S. asked for help”:
After 9/11 when the U.S. invaded Iraq, we sent out a call for assistance to form a “coalition of the willing.” In over five years, more than 6,000 Ukrainians did military service by supporting the U.S. in either Iraq or Kuwait. Eighteen Ukrainian soldiers died in Iraq. The U.S. Army website states “the Ukrainians served as the third-largest coalition forces contingent in Iraq.” Ukraine was one of only three countries to openly support U.S. operations in Afghanistan when that war started. Ukraine sent her troops and during our withdrawal helped evacuate various personnel from Afghanistan. The Ukrainian military rescued people trapped in Afghanistan by “deploying their special forces troops into the city on foot to conduct the rescue.” Russia did not help the U.S. in either of these situations and I am sure was cheering our enemies on. It is unfortunate that Trump, Vance and Finstad are so ignorant of Ukrainians’ affection for America and of Americans, they are willing to sell Ukraine and America out to a common enemy — Russia.

Actually, if I heard it correctly, it was Putin’s idea (maybe China suggested it to him).
I figured maybe Russia trusts Trump’s America more than he trusts Western Europeans or the Russian military is so vulnerable, the US may have to keep Ukraine from attacking Russia.
Either way, I don’t support that at all.

Exactly.
We don’t owe any nation on this earth a security guarantee.
It took two world wars and a cold war to change our historic and successful foreign policy, a policy of “minding our own business” when it comes to warfare for the benefit of foreigners.
