Secretary of State Marco Rubio took on the mainstream media Sunday during a slew of appearances following President Trump's bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Rubio sparred with CBS host Margaret Brennan as she pushed him to divulge details about Trump's meeting with Putin, which took place in Alaska on Friday, as well as the forthcoming White House meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy.
'This is such a stupid media narrative that [European leaders] are coming here tomorrow because Trump is going to bully Zelensky into a bad deal. We've been working with these people for weeks... We invited them to come,' Rubio told Brennan.
'To have a deal ... to reach the end of this conflict, both sides are going to have to make concessions,' Rubio said of the agreement America is working to broker between Russia and Ukraine.
Brennan pushed Rubio on whether he, and by extension the rest of the Trump administration's leadership, were 'demanding withdrawal' of Russian troops from land that Putin 'has already seized land by force.'
'This is about what Ukraine can accept. And what Russia can accept. They both have to accept it, otherwise, there won't be a peace deal,' Rubio told Brennan.
'If there aren't concessions, if one side gets everything they want, that's called surrender. That's called the end of the war through surrender. And that's not what we're close to doing, because neither side here is on the verge of surrender or anything close to it,' the Secretary of State continued.
X users piled on the praise for Rubio's CBS performance, and a similar takedown he offered on ABC Sunday as well.
'Can you name any concessions that Vladimir Putin made during this meeting?' ABC host Martha Raddatz asked Rubio on Sunday.

Bmk...
I used to check numbers through Editor and Publisher, to watch media lose its market-share and clientele. E&P is still around. I don't bother with them these days, but it amuses to find "The last American newspaper takes the stage" and complaints there about online -- especially Google -- impinging on "the press" by "harming website traffic."
People walk away. Sometimes they flee. But always the take their wallets with them....
Both parties have been traitors to America as far as China is concerned for decades! Funny how that escapes these people’s notice. Russia, Russia, Russia. The traitorous American media are probably working for China who wants to keep Russia close.
Frankly, Margaret, I really don’t care.
Some day, someone at Skydance is going to wake up thinking, “JC, this Brennan woman is really stupid - how much are we paying her?”
You can’t ‘humiliate’ any of them in the leftist media. They’re way beyond shame in their futile defense of everything the democrats are guilty of.
stupid women (what a surprise)
Never been a fan of Rubio.
But that said, he is proving himself to be one of Trump’s best cabinet choices.
He has a very measured tone and doesn’t try too hard to sell or defend.
Straight, direct and honest responses which is deadly to a media that is always prodding looking to pounce on an emotional over reaction.
Well done, Marco.
The legacy media keeps trotting out these feable light weight leftist women thinking they have a leg up on Conservatives. Turns out they get owned and wind up with both legs.....
“Well done, Marco.”
Yes. He continues to do good work and will likely be a future presidential contender.
Apparently Marge learned nothing from her previous interview with SoS Rubio.
Rubio has been brilliant as SoS. I’ve got my eye on him for 2028 but I will be leery about him on immigration, since he was one of the gang of Senators pushing “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” (i.e. Amnesty). Not sure I can trust a Hispanic elected official on that issue.
He also cannot be trusted with 2A issues. Otherwise he’s doing a good job, except I would like to know why the State Department has been flying in refugees from Gaza. We shouldn’t take a single one, send them to London or Paris.
Putin has to accept a security guarantee backed by the PRC; Zelenski has to accept unconditional surrender.
Couldn’t be fairer ...
