Boycott, eh? US exports of liquor and wine to Canada have plummeted by more than 60% in the first half of the year as furious Canucks snub American booze because of President Trump’s trade war.

Shipments of popular US-made whiskeys, rums, gins and other liquors through June to Canadian provinces was around $43.4 million, according to the Distilled Spirits Council — a 62% drop from the approximate $114 million during the same period last year.

Wine exports have suffered even more severely, falling approximately 67% based on federal trade statistics provided by the US trade group. The data was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. Canadian provinces, which control most alcohol importing and distribution in the country, have replaced popular American brands on store shelves with local alternatives after Trump slapped the northern neighbor with a 25% tariff on US imports.

In 2024, the U.S. spent $412,695,700,000 on imports from Canada, which affected goods such as steel, aluminum, and agricultural products. In the same year, the U.S. spent $349,359,900 on exports from Canada.

Just checking out the tariffs Canada charged us...

Poultry, processed - 51%
Live Chickens - 111.56%
Dairy produce, milk and cream, concentrated... - 137.25%
Butter - 149%
Cheese, powdered or processed - 122.75%
Eggs - 35.53%

There are hundreds of items like this. Link is below.

Canada has a lot of nerve complaining about our tariffs.

My apologies...I cut and pasted from a Newsweek article. I should know better.

I am pretty sure they meant that we spent $412 billion on Canadian goods and Canada spent $349 million on US goods.

In any event...they need us more than we need them.

53% of adult Americans didn't have any alcohol drinks last year. Politically, Republicans are the citizens least likely to have had a drink.

That’s a shame. If Canadians are serious about boycotting our liquor, they should be allowed to do it, not forced to do it.
