Trump’s Got A Great Suggestion For Reporters Claiming D.C. Crime Is Not A Problem

President Donald Trump said he thinks it's a great idea for reporters who claim that D.C. crime is not a problem to go on a ride-along with law enforcement to get an accurate sense of the situation in the nation's capital.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference from the Kennedy Center on Wednesday, Trump took questions about his latest move to federalize law enforcement in the nation's capital due to out-of-control crime.

One reporter asked President Trump if he would "encourage members of the press to do ride-alongs with the D.C. police to understand how serious this crime issue is."

Trump didn't hesitate and almost answered before the reporter was done speaking.

"Sure!" the President said. "It's okay with me if they want to do it. We're going to work with the D.C. police, a lot of very good people in there. Not all. But a lot are very good, very professional."

"And the numbers are worse than they ever… don't let anybody tell you they're not," he added, pointing to the crime stats Democrats and those in the media have tried to point to, which my RedState colleague Bonchie reported aren't exactly what they claim to be.

"We are going to be very open about what we are doing. So, if the media wants to ride with the police," Trump continued. "If they want to do it. If they feel it's safe, that would be okay."

At one point, President Trump took a question about the current thirty-day limit on the federalization of police to crack down on crime in the city unless Congress extends it, and he admitted it's going to take longer.

REPORTER: Your federalization of the police has a 30 day limit unless Congress acts to extend it...@POTUS: "We expect to be before Congress very quickly... We're going to need a crime bill... We're going to be asking for extensions on that—long-term extensions." pic.twitter.com/SRuIWBGTHq— Rapid Response 47 (@RapidResponse47) August 13, 2025

"We expect to be before Congress very quickly," Trump replied. "And again, we think the Democrats will not do anything to stop crime. But we think the Republicans will do it almost unanimously."

"So, we're going to need a crime bill that we're putting in, and it's going to pertain initially to D.C. We're going to use it as a very positive example. And we're going to be asking for extensions on that-long-term extensions, because you can't have thirty days."

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dropped the surprising number of arrests on just the first night after Trump had announced the crackdown in D.C. to end violent crime, RedState reported.

"As part of the president's massive law enforcement surge, last night, approximately 850 officers and agents were surged across the city," Leavitt said. "They made a total of 23 arrests, including multiple other contacts."

🚨LAW & ORDER IS HERE

Last night 850 officers & agents were SURGED across DC.

23 total arrests were made consisting of:

Homicide
Firearms offenses (6 illegal guns)
Possession with intent to distribute narcotics
Lewd acts
Stalking
Drunk driving

The White House press secretary then provided a long list of the arrests made, which included the following:

She noted that this is just the beginning, pointing out that the Trump administration over the next month will "relentlessly pursue and arrest every violent criminal in the district who breaks the law, undermines public safety, and endangers law-abiding Americans."

Following Trump's announcement, the D.C. Police Union showed its support for Trump's crackdown as well. Union Chairman Gregg Pemberton said that immediate action was needed to turn things around, as RedState reported.

He should have just told them to do a slow roll through Anacostia at 2am.

Or better yet, tell them take a leisurely stroll through the DC streets around midnight. Oh, and be sure to wear some nice jewelry and carry a cell phone.

I have a great idea. Take a reporter for the New York Times to the worst neighborhood in DC. Chain the reporter to a tree. Set up a trail cam to capture the action. Return in the morning to see what happened.

This is a great idea except. They would misreport what they saw the same as they can misreport on the actual crime statistics. This tactic only works if they’re honest.

There's absolutely no need for ride-alongs because...

Democrat Mayors Report Violent Crime Down 40% Since They Redefined ‘Violent’ And ‘Crime’.

just make the reporters walk around DC when they want to travel anywhere. That would do the trick.

Ride-along, Hell. Make them walk a mile through these neighborhoods by themselves, unarmed, with no bodyguards.

You don’t have to go that far - just go a few blocks north of the White House and you’re in the highest crime areas of the district:

https://crimecards.dc.gov/

(White House is in the blue rectangle where it says “D.C.”)

And this is the with DC police cooking the books to mis-report crimes so the stats don’t look so bad.

Firearms offenses (6 illegal handguns were seized)

Evil bastards. Gain and retain power is all they care about, and they literally don’t care if their voters die

Ride along would be fine. But they’d find out much faster if they just went on leisurely strolls at night. They’d find out the truth, real fast, and would need to take up officers time with ride-alongs.

I think they should just take a walk in a bad neighborhood at 2:00 AM. They will come out of it as Republicans (If they make it)

Except for Anacostia, DC turned itself around before covid.

Other blue cities such as Portland are no-go zones nowadays because the Democrats refused to do anything about crime once again.

Bill Clinton was "tough on crime" but we are seeing the Democrats return to their roots, they've always been weak on crime. NYC was Gotham before Rudy Giuliani. Even today, NYC is not that bad but that may change soon with the election of Zohran Mamdani. We will probably see 1,000,000 people flee NYC.

The methadone clinics open at 5 am and half of SE is in line or messing with traffic. When you miss the last I-295 exit before the bridge, you’re stuck with making the U-turn from Hell on the other side in Anacostia.

I saw that female journalist from the Washington Examiner on NewsNation who was sexually assaulted and robbed by a mugger in DC.

Shockingly, she said she went over the public crime records for DC and the police had suppressed her crime. She said there was no report of it despite her being in the hospital and having to testify (the assaulter was let out on bail and committed five separate crimes before her case came up, each time with a DC judge letting him go again).

So her being sexually assaulted was not on the crime statistics list of things getting better.

Personal note. A young woman student assistant at the university where I used to work was raped one night outside in the bushes on the campus. She had a hard time getting her mind back on studies and trying to trust people and so on and we all did our best to help her recover. She was always nervous and worried after the rape.

When the crime report mandated by the government for the university came out for that month, a woman at work was open mouthed. There was no statistic for her assault. The university made the statistic disappear. “So she doesn’t count?”

The mandatory reporting was due to the practice of covering up crimes so parents wouldn’t shun the colleges for their children to apply there. The little secrets made the colleges look safer. Sadly, even with the government demand they still cheated.

Another nearby university had a string of female students being grabbed and raped as they took a shortcut through a dark parking lot behind a convenience store. Finally one story made the regular newspaper and the police admitted there had been earlier rapes in the same shortcut area but they had decided to keep that news out of the newspaper. College didn’t want the bad publicity.

So had the women been informed, they could have avoided taking the shortcut. Dirty cops and dirty news media.

It amazes me how these idiots get elected in the first place. I assume they do so by the usual method of lying and lying and lying and making ridiculous promises they obviously can’t keep.

It’s like this clowm Zohran Mamdani running for Mayor in New York city, he claims everything will be free, free buses, free apartments, free grocery stores, oh yes and no cops who will be replaced by social workers and no prisons because prisons “are obsolete and serve no purpose”.

Who thinks like this? 3 year olds? People fall for this crap?
