The Florida Hype has run it’s course for this cycle.
Every Generation gets it’s turn.
It ain’t yer Grandpa’s Florida no more.
It’s once again what was conveniently forgotten.
Too hot to live in year round.
Even without the heat, the humidity is unbearable.
Not enough good fresh, inexpensive water.
Not enough inexpensive reliable power.
Real Estate bubbles inflate and pop.
Over run with all kinds of Florida Man/Woman characters.
Jobs in general are sketchy.
Most of the food sucks.
Oh, and ya never really go to the beach anyway cuz it’s overrun with Tourists.
Ya can keep yer Florida Dreams.

I don’t know how it happened but we got lucky.
Central Florida, Tampa Electric. Dropped the monthly fee from .71 a day to .52 a day. They had asked for 1.07 a day.
If I ask why, they mmight say — oops.
For us solar hounds, this monthly fee is the backbone of our costs to be solar.
When we retired in 2014 with the plan of moving to America I floated the idea of retiring to Florida. My wife nixed that idea immediately citing the horrific humidity and all the bugs. Turns out it was a good move, albeit for other reasons. Since then I’ve learned about oppressive HOAs, red light cameras, photo radar and toll roads. We settled on Arizona, which isn’t nearly as bad. But that lasted a year before we hightailed it back home to Alaska.

We moved to Florida in the mid-60s and it was a pretty nice place. We left in 2006 and have never regretted leaving for a day
Are they trying to compete with California (and Hawaii) as to which state can have the highest utility rates?

We are entering our really hot time of year (Gov. Newsom says it’s due to “Climate Change” - not entirely normal high August temps). I have elderly and disabled neighbors who won’t turn on the a/c b/c of huge electricity bills. I have a “high efficiency” unit (got a $1500 rebate from the state) - and my bill is around $400/month during August and Sept. I have neighbors that have $500, $750 and even $1,000 bills for electricity.
We knew this was coming. FPL sucks....
That is ridiculous! I suppose now every other state will raise their rates “because Florida is doing it”. Are we sure that some of this wasn’t because of excess use due to AI facilities?

What a load of BS. I once lived in Phoenix. Much worse than Florida.
We moved to Florida, gated community. Bought for $350k, now worth about $700k.
Community run HOA not oppressive. Very few red light cameras. Almost no need to ever use the few toll roads.

I’ve been to Pensacola twice & other than being able to watch the Blue Angels practice & seeing the beautiful beaches, I decided they had nothing I really needed.
Just wait until metered billing is implemented. Need to dry your clothes in the middle of the day? Pay 150% more. People will be doing their laundry at 9:00 p.m. or later to avoid the costs.
Florida is expensive, but this rate increase is totally due to the corporate culture jumping on the solar bandwagon. Ultra expensive, ultra unreliable and stupid if I were an FPL stockholder I’d make a nuisance of myself at the shareholders’ meeting. Unfortunately, I’m only a customer.

I remember having metered billing as a small child over 70 years ago.
They should only get the rate increases if they cancel any Solar, Wind and battery projects that have not yet started as of January 1 of this year.
Any projects already started as of January 1 will be scrapped and the company may be reimbursed for those projects minus and salvaged cost for parts resold.
Any projects not yet completed should be evaluated for abandonment
The massive solar farms must be failing...
