Remember when the media convinced us that this problem was a “Catholic priest” issue? Yeah, not. The abusers are everywhere in society, and have been protected by dirtbag elected officials, corrupt law enforcement, and unaccountable bureaucrats.

Sounds more like right wing wishful thinking. Yes, the $4B lawsuit is big, but LA county has not been bankrupted yet. We see many such articles that get hopes high, only to see them dashed. Reader beware.

I believe the settlements were more about pandering and vote buying than justice. It was the “sue and settle” scheme to direct money to cronies and the demonrat base. How much you think went to victims. Probably about the same as I get from the Apple lawsuit.

Not that there was not victims of abuse that the county should be held accountable. But tue taxpayers should not be held hostage. Individuals committed crimes and should be held accountable. If there were government officials the should be held personally liable.

Democratic legislators were lobbied by politically connected law firms, often using alleged ‘victims’ as a front, with the promise of scoring big payouts from the Catholic Church. California and Maryland officials had been warned that they were exposing their states to untold billions in liability over accusations from a generation ago that could not be defended against.

The dirty little secret of the accusations is how few of them can even be verified.

With over 7,000 claims and over $4 billion in payouts so far, it would seem reasonable that hundreds of sex abusers had also been named and are being arrested and prosecuted.

The actual number in Los Angeles is 2. Not 2,000 or 200. Only 2.

This as their tax base is fleeing - being replaced by destitute illegals who are given lavish taxpayer funded services, along LA having the the largest homeless population in the country.

What money these morons do manage to scrounge up is being mismanaged by DEI hires and electees like the incompetent Karen Bass:

“An independent audit commissioned by a federal judge has found that Los Angeles city and county leaders cannot account for billions of taxpayer dollars spent on the homelessness crisis, highlighting a severe lack of financial accountability and record-keeping... a poor paper trail makes it nearly impossible to track $2.4 billion in city funding.”

The $$ has disappeared into off-shore bank accounts, just like it does with African dictators.

Repeat your post but take out the words “protected by”.

The city is afraid if these sex abuse cases go to trial - the outcome will be even larger settlements as any jury in Los Angeles is now an OJ jury.

I remember when the archdiocese of Los Angeles settled for $800M to make their sex abuse cases go away:

“Counsel for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced today that a settlement agreement in principle has been reached for the payment of $880 million to settle 1353 childhood sexual abuse claims filed against the Archdiocese.”

Oh, no doubt some if not most of the “protected by” are also outright perps.

We, in the United States, had statutes of limitations for valid reasons.

The Woke mob insisted on repealing statutes of limitations for “sex abuse”. With 30+ year old offenses in “he said” “she said” cases, and the population primed by the media to believe any “sex abuse” accusation, this was an obviously foreseeable disaster.

The Church’s offenses, tho, are more important thanthe others because the offenders had taken an oath of celibacy to their Gawd, and then violated it.
Forget other aspects. How depraved do you have to be to take that path? These are the worst human beings on the planet. The Church, tho, doubled down by protecting them instead of excommunication and ‘Ell. From that I can only conclude that all Church officials are equally depraved.

“he said” “she said”

more like "he said" "he said". Sex abuse scandals are mostly predatory faggot scandals.

I have known many good, well adjusted Catholic priests in my lifetime. The problem is homosexuals dominated the clergy for decades. I was told by someone in the know the percentage of faggots in the clergy was 60%. That was 30 years ago. John Paul II cracked down on allowing homos into the seminaries, so that number should be much lower now.

I have found that the people who crowed the loudest about the comparatively miniscule number of pervert Catholic priests, were the most silent about multitude of perverts in every other area of life. This told me that those people didn't really care about the abused children. All they cared about was bashing the Catholic Church with whatever stick was convenient.

Personally, I am in favor of keeping the pervs out of ALL areas of life.

Mine do. But of course, my kids were homeschooled and taught from a young age that the rainbow-flag and everything associated with it is gross, ugly and dangerous. Always avoid. Beyond that, they are trained in martial arts.

Maryland passed a law removing the statute of limitations for sex abuse, with the idea of going after the Catholic Church and Boy Scouts. Observant lawyers saw a huge opportunity and big pockets and started going after state employees, such as prison guards and teachers.

The state quickly passed a law limiting payouts by the state for such settlements.

Great!! You do realize that you are an EXCEPTION, don't you??

99% of kids can't even ride their bicycles anymore out of their parent's sight. It's PATHETIC what PERVERETS have done to our kids over these 30 years.
