IT IS 99 MILES FROM THE NEVADA /UTAH BORDER TO SALT LAKE CITY——HAVE DRIVEN IT AT LEAST 6 TIMES.
THE ONLY THING IN-BETWEEN IS BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS.
DRIVE US 50 ACROSS THE USA. LONELIEST HIGHWAY IN THE USA.
IF YOU THINK I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT-—
I DRIVE 6 MILES TO GET TO DOLLAR GENERAL-—25+ MILES TO WALMART/LOWE’S/BANK/RANCH SUPPLY
IS ICE CREAM COUNTED AS A PREPARED DESERT?????
Way for red states to nudge their welfare residents along to the blue?
DO THE MATH ABOUT KIDS GETTING FREE MEALS IN SCHOOL & MOM GETTING DNAP.
THERE IS NO RECONCILIATION BETWEEN THE 2 SOURCES>
THE SNAP IS COUNTED AS 3 MEALS A DAY FOR EACH HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS-—90 a month-—— BUT THE KIDS ARE GETTING 5 OR MORE MAILS A WEEK AT SCHOOL. THAT is 20 right there.
DOUBLE DIPPING
SIMPLE MATH
I have a 1 ton Chevy truck I bought used in 1986 that I have out over 250,000 miles on by myself. TOWING HORSES
THERE ARE MILES & MILES OF “MILES & MILES” of open road with nothing out there.
Before EBT went full debit card, paper food stamps absolutely were restricted as to what could be purchased. I remember how the cashiers handled it - items that food stamps could not be used for were set aside until after the initial purchase was paid for and bagged, then rung up for a separate cash payment. Strangely enough, those food stamp users always had cash on hand for cigarettes, beer and soda (and other non-foodstuffs commonly found in grocery stores). We’ve already let the bureaucrats have full control of this mess for decades; their decision is to allow damned near everything on the “approved” list.
It’s a start.
They really were, weren’t they? LOL!
Our Grandma knew we loved Wonder Bread and Mom would never buy it; too expensive and NO nutritional value whatsoever, so we had that at Grandma’s. Grandpa kept the fridge stocked with Pepsi (in glass bottles!) and EVERY kind of ice cream treat you could imagine.
Yeah, we really suffered as kids, LOL! Well, according to my sister we did. We obviously grew up in two completely different families. *Rolleyes*
God Bless the Grandparents.........what would we have done without them ?
:)
Have you ever lived in a rural area? There is no such thing as a “food desert”-especially not for city people, where every available space is covered by a retail business. I grew up on a ranch-the nearest retail stores were in a tiny town 20 miles away, but we grew most of our own food anyway. I still do not eat any GMO or processed food or fast food junk-only organic and fresh, and I have no problem finding that even here in the boonies...
The nearest food here is the Dollar General Market or a small food/general store-both are nearly 5 miles away. There is no fast food out here. There is a small-chain grocery in the nearest town of 900 people-it has organic produce, free-range meat and lots of brand name organic stuff-it is 20 miles away, but no one out here seems unable to get healthy food...
Giving the “poor” kids 3 meals at school is BS-mom gets SNAP, so they eat again at home, and now we have overweight kids by the time they are 7-8 years old. Any meal other than lunch should NOT be served at school to any kid-myself and other taxpayers are not responsible for feeding anyone else’s kids, period...
I really do think that SNAP benefits should be limited to food that has to be prepared-fresh, uncooked food-and anyone applying for SNAP should be given a simple, basic cookbook and required to attend a nutrition class-at least we would not be funding so many of the obese “poor” if they had to cook real food to eat. Nearly all of the women who use Lonestar cards at the checkout at the Lowe’s Market in the nearest town are so obese that they have to be eating as much as 3 people my size-and we taxpayers are paying for that...

Not as far as I know, but frozen pies might be. Here in WI, you can get all the things that are forbidden in the new Red state prohibitions. Hot food may be what they call ‘prepared’ and is forbidden here for SNAP purchases.
Selling SNAP for money is only done by a few people relative to the whole program - do not tar everyone with the same brush.
Millions absolutely depend on SNAP benefits to get food, which they do not sell, but, shockingly, actually eat to stay alive.
