Let's hope the Pentagon has already issued purchase orders for higher rate production.
Total number of THAAD interceptors built since acceptance is 650. Current production rate is 100/yr.
Oh Well...
.
Just an early 4th of July!
.
Spectacular at any Rate.
A big problem is the way that companies have to handle production to make a profit and not lose their shirts, the government needs to figure out their long term needs and guarantee enough years of purchases to make it possible for the companies to build the new factories and increase production, knowing that they will be able to sell the product until all that investment pays off.
Some of the European countries did something along those lines 2 or 3 years ago to make it easier for weapons to be produced for Ukraine and NATO.
bkmk
More information leaked to our enemies!
Thank God only a few of these kinds of a_holes were alive during WWII...
The ones caught were summarily shot...
>> Current production rate is 100/yr.
We can do better. And we should!
Surprised at this, the SM-3 has been around a long time. Very curious what this is all about.
“unnamed U.S. officials” ... my favorite source of rumors ...
as a side note, israel blowed up iran’s missile launchers, missile stockpiles, and missile factories, so won’t need as many interceptors in the mideast for a while, freeing up more to shoot down russkie missiles ...
They key being how successful is THAAD?
We burned through a lot more than the number given
“make it possible for the companies to build the new factories”
The US government at one time owned some weapons manufacturing plants I believe.
There is a lot of vacant factory space in the US.
(We’re using up a lot of resources.)
It wasn’t worth it. America First!
“freeing up more to shoot down russkie missiles”
Ukraine needs to move legitimate targets out of its cities.
The US shouldn’t pay $12 million for a single missile so a Ukrainian general can dine at his favorite restaurant in Kiev.
Buildings as small as possible should be built scattered about in Ukrainian conifer forests for weapons production.
We can thank Biden for giving money to Iran, who likely gave money to Hamas, who attacked Israel.
“It wasn’t worth it.”
Two billion dollars of US missiles so Israel is able to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear superpower is a bargain by Pentagon standards.
I read that was the reason for the quick ceasefire.
The government still does seem to own some plants but I’m not sure if it is some hybrid form of government ownership and a private company combined, anyway, we mostly prefer private companies manufacturing our goods although with weapons we must have a lot of influence or even control over that plant.
Here is a government document on the number.
“As of October 1, 2023, the MDA had delivered 799 operational THAAD interceptors to the U.S.

One outcome of the both the Ukrainian War and the 12-Day War is the realization that U.S. other Western powers dramatically underestimated ammunition consumption rates.
We need much more ammo. It is better to find out now than when we or our critical interests are attacked.
