President Donald Trump took steps on Thursday to end the massive takeover of crime and homelessness on the streets after Democrat leaders in Blue states have failed to do anything to make our streets safer.
During a signing at the White House, President Trump signed the "ENDING CRIME AND DISORDER ON AMERICA'S STREETS" Executive Order, which aims to restore "public order" to cities and remove homeless individuals from the streets by enforcing no urban camping, urban squatting, and loitering, among others.
"The number of individuals living on the streets in the United States on a single night during the last year of the previous administration -- 274,224 -- was the highest ever recorded," the White House release read. "The overwhelming majority of these individuals are addicted to drugs, have a mental health condition, or both."
Outstanding news from the White House.
President Trump’s new executive order aggressively shifts federal homelessness policy toward treatment, civil commitment, and law enforcement crackdowns—ditching harm reduction in favor of public safety and institutionalization.

"Nearly two-thirds of homeless individuals report having regularly used hard drugs like methamphetamines, cocaine, or opioids in their lifetimes. An equally large share of homeless individuals reported suffering from mental health conditions," it added. "The Federal Government and the States have spent tens of billions of dollars on failed programs that address homelessness but not its root causes, leaving other citizens vulnerable to public safety threats."
"Shifting homeless individuals into long-term institutional settings for humane treatment through the appropriate use of civil commitment will restore public order," it continued. "Surrendering our cities and citizens to disorder and fear is neither compassionate to the homeless nor other citizens. My Administration will take a new approach focused on protecting public safety."
One part of the EO essentially said it ends the "housing first" policies of numerous blue states led by failed Democratic leadership in places like California, New York, Oregon, Washington, etc. that "deprioritize accountability" and fails to "promote treatment, recovery, and self-sufficiency; increasing competition among grantees through broadening the applicant pool; and holding grantees to higher standards of effectiveness in reducing homelessness and increasing public safety."

The Daily Caller's Reagan Reese summed up the lengthy order below:
NEWS: Trump is expected to sign an executive order later today aimed at restoring "order to American cities" and removing "vagrant individuals from our streets," a WH official shares with @DailyCaller.
In the order:

-- the Attorney General will be ordered to "reverse judicial precedents and end consent decrees that limit State and local governments' ability to commit individuals on the streets who are a risk to themselves or others."
-- The AG will work with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and the Secretary of Transportation to "prioritize grants for states and municipalities that enforce prohibitions on open illicit drug use, urban camping and loitering, and urban squatting, and track the location of sex offenders."
-- Funding will be redirected "to ensure that individuals camping on streets and causing public disorder and that are suffering from serious mental illness or addiction are moved into treatment centers, assisted outpatient treatment, or other facilities."
-- The order stops sex offenders who receive homelessness assistance from being housed with children.
-- The order makes sure discretionary grants for substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery are not funding drug injection sites or illicit drug use.
My RedState colleague Jennifer Van Laar recently wrote about Democrat CA Governor Gavin, who has destroyed the once Golden State, allowing crime to run rampant and the homeless to take over parts of the state's great cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Newsom, who famously proclaimed in 2008 as Mayor of San Francisco that he had a 10-year plan to end homelessness in the city, now presides over the state where half of the nation's homeless live. He's repeatedly said that "fixing" homelessness is his number one goal, yet the problem is increasing by every metric: number of people on the streets, deaths of homeless people, violent crimes committed by the homeless, fires started by the homeless, et cetera, et cetera. And, the state can't account for $24 billion in homeless funding.
Lock 'em up. Dry 'em out. Work 'em down.
The number of disabled homeless is ridiculous.
It’s as if they are just thrown away to beg.
It’s so bad there are clearly people with mental disorders on the street corners begging for someone to help.
Every day when I leave work there’s a guy with clear signs of mental illness asking for money.
He lives in the woods nearby.
This has gotten out of hand but I just thought it was Memphis.
If the left/democrats hadn’t pocketed all those billions of slush $$ under xiden/zero, every state would have had operating asylums and addiction clinics to keep the most problematic homeless off of the streets.
Additionally, if the amount wasted just in the city of Portland, Oregon 2024-25 is any example (estimated >$700 million), every state with a homeless/drug population would have had no problem with funding said facilities.
It’s a question of choice and the left would rather punish the populace as we see today under their edicts than foster a safe & productive society as it occurs in the absence of dems/left & their edicts.
We're at the point where Trump should call up the National Guard in all of the blue cities, arrest the homeless. Then send them to rehab.
Democrats are making $$$ out of homeless so they are not interested in a solution.
Good luck making it stick in Hawaii.
If you build them (institutions) they will be full.
Why change if you can continue doing drugs and living on the streets until you die.......and then they have shots to bring you back, so you can repeat the process. INSANITY.
In WA state, Frank Chopp was Speaker of the State House for years. He founded homeless shelters, and the city of Seattle spends about $1 Billion a year on the homeless. Of course, the legislators found the companies to “help the homeless” to get off the street. They did logical things like condemn Motels where drug addicts, prostitutes, dealears and drunks lived. They took the buildings out of private hands. They refurbished them, then moved in the same people. Only this time with no owner to make a profit. The STATE too taxes for the down payment on remodels, then the new organizations founded to fix the problem took over. It started with independents, then Motel 6 and now even Holiday Inns got into the act. They have 100% rental rates, but the govt is the one paying the bills, plus a high pct cut for profit. EVIL EVIL Democrats.
Democrats encourage drug use and homelessness, etc by handing out FREE drugs and paraphernalia to addicts can get their fixes *safely*.
Democrats don’t want those problems solved. They perpetuate them for their own evil use and ends.
That’s been my idea for some 40 years...the ones worth saving, save...you know—guys and gals living in cars that have a job, but can’t afford housing and not druggies or drunks per se...
The druggies, etal ...put them out in the desert tents and those that wish treatment, help them out...those that don’t—different camp with different priorities.
Interesting how the liberals plan for reducing virtually any societal problem is to find ways to create more of it.
The number of disabled homeless is ridiculous.
It’s as if they are just thrown away to beg.
*******
Yes, it’s as if we, as a rich nation, are content to let the disable, mentally ill and drug addicted live under bridges or in jail. It is morally depraved. Thank you President Trump for taking action.
There is plenty of room in the Mojave Desert to establish internment camps.
Lock ‘em up. Dry ‘em out. Work ‘em down.

A little extreme. The mentally ill need residential treatment and yes, possibly lockdown centers to save them from themselves. The drug addicted need the same. The disabled need decent places to live and something to keep them busy.
Thank God, it’ll be interesting to see what the president does.
Democrats encourage drug use and homelessness, etc by handing out FREE drugs and paraphernalia to addicts can get their fixes *safely*.
Democrats don’t want those problems solved. They perpetuate them for their own evil use and ends.

FACT
Big shocker. /s But I hadn’t read that. Interesting.
“dems/left & their edicts”
But we can spend hundreds of billions a year on climate crap, the UN, and Ukraine.
You don’t really want that.
At least I hope you don’t.
Actually the basic concept isn’t a bad one.
Get them clean and teach them a marketable skill, and above all counseling with a godly pastor.
No, it won’t help all, but some will benefit.
Internment camps are a bad idea.
Somehow people got that with the FEMA camps, but they don’t see what could come with the ICE detention facilities after the Trump administration.
