In a historic victory for Nevada families, Nevada Right to Life has succeeded in finally enforcing the state’s parental notification law — nearly 40 years after it was passed. Planned Parenthood has officially dropped its decades-long lawsuit, clearing the way for parents to be notified before a minor undergoes an abortion.
Since 1985, Nevada Right to Life has been the only organization relentlessly fighting to get this law enforced, shouldering the financial burden and actively seeking every legal avenue to bring justice for families. Thanks to their unwavering dedication, supported by legal counsel James Bopp, Jr. of The Bopp Law Firm, PC, and district attorneys Stephen Rye and Garrit Pruyt, the outdated injunction blocking enforcement has finally been lifted.
The parental notification law was blocked for nearly 40 years by a federal court injunction, allowing minors to receive abortions without parental knowledge. That ends today.
“This is a landmark moment for parents and children across Nevada,” said Melissa Clement, executive director of Nevada Right to Life. “We refused to give up. We carried this fight alone for decades, and now parents will have a voice in decisions affecting their children’s lives.”
The law includes a judicial bypass option for minors in special cases but ensures parents have a right to be involved.
With the lawsuits dismissed and the court’s stay lifted, Nevada is taking a vital step forward — protecting family rights, transparency, and accountability.
