Putin has just discovered the scale of his latest miscalculation
The Telegraph ^

President Donald Trump has finally lost patience with Vladimir Putin. Having promised a “major” announcement on Russia, Trump has now confirmed that the US will dramatically increase weapons supplies to Europe for use in Ukraine and threatened 100 per cent secondary tariffs on Russia’s trade partners. Trump would only provide Russia with an off-ramp if Putin agreed to a ceasefire in Ukraine within 50 days.

From what I understand, the weapons are being purchased, so we should not be “paying” for anyone’s war and of course we are getting some of their natural resources.

We are, in fact, sending weapons to Ukraine, and we are also paying for them.

Trump is doing the right thing, even if he's pulling the wool over our eyes.

We are a member of NATO, and we pay the biggest part of the bill for that alliance. As a member of NATO, we would be the ones paying the most to purchase those American weapons. So, we are, even inf indirectly, paying for those weapons. NATO acting as the go-between, is a rarce. But, I still don't mind the trickery.

Trump is doing FAR LESS to ‘punish Russia’ which actually means punish the UNITED STATES, than I feared. As far as I can see, he, correctly, has nothing to do with Linda’s 500% ‘sanctions’ bill, he’s giving Russia a free pass to continue their liberation of Ukraine for another 50 days, and the ‘billions’ that he’s promised could well be MREs, given the lack of details.

‘But instead of sending combat formations to Ukraine to help, we have chosen to limit our assistance to intelligence sharing and the provision of weapons systems and munitions. As have other NATO allies.”

At a cost of over $300 Billion.
And why on earth would America send our kids to go die in Ukraine on top of paying for most of the cost of that war, even while Ukraine is not even an ally?

“Military alliances is not the only way countries can be allies. Some countries don’t even had military forces to speak of, and we have unwritten obligations to come to their aid when called for. “

Like who?
Point is, its not America’s business to be the world’s police man.
America just cannot afford it.
Vietnam, Korea etc were stupid wars, costing America Trillions of dollars in today’s money.
And for what?

Why are you advocating for Putin instead of President Trump?

“That's not how the world works. “

No?
America sends itself into poverty paying for other people's wars?
Is that how it works?

"We provide aid for many reasons, including economic and military, and sometimes it doesn't have to be requested. Tere are many countries around the world that have no way to defend themselves and can only hope that a friend and/or ally will come to their defense".

Now that's really funny.
Why don't these countries go to Europe to get Europe to help them for a change?
And we don't provide military aid for “economic reasons”.
Almost all of these countries, especially European countries, have enjoyed massive trade surpluses with America for DECADES even as America spent hundreds of billions of dollars every year for their defence.!
America has been getting screwed both ways.

You seem to be a fan of appeasement.

Can you let the class know when appeasement against an aggressor nation worked?

We will wait.

Is that a joke?
Ukraine was in the Soviet Union in WW Ii.
They fought on the side of the Russians, who initially fought WITH Hitler.
Remember that?

You don’t recall your history very well. We have gotten sucked into Euro Wars for two centuries. It is more costly to wait until Europe is drained white. It is better to destroy the aggressor before they destroy the continent.

Russia is a cancer. If you allow it to spread, it just leads to destruction and death. It’s best to nip that shit in the bud.

Having the Ukrainians kill them in Ukraine means that we won’t have to in Germany. Or by the time they cross into Poland the Russians will be more weak than they already are.

“Ukraine has never been an American ally. Ever.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Your comment based on ignorance.

WHY Ukraine is a TRUE ALLY of the United States (and why helping them matters, either giving or selling them defensive weapons) :

They’ve contributed to U.S. missions. Ukrainian troops served alongside U.S. and NATO forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. They weren’t just talk—they showed up!!

They’re literally fighting our geopolitical enemy. Russia is America’s top adversary, and Ukraine is doing the heavy lifting in weakening Putin’s military without a single American boot on the ground. That’s huge.

They gave up nukes—for peace. Ukraine once had the world’s third-largest nuclear arsenal after the Soviet collapse. They gave it up in 1994 in exchange for security assurances from the U.S., UK, and Russia (Budapest Memorandum). We promised to help if they were attacked.

They support Western values. Ukraine is striving for democracy, freedom of speech, a free press, rule of law—everything the U.S. says it stands for. They’ve literally been dying for these values.

They’ve been a strategic partner for decades. Since the 1990s, Ukraine has worked with the U.S. on defense reform, anti-terrorism, and intelligence sharing. They’ve been a steady partner for years.

They’re keeping Europe stable. A free Ukraine helps ensure a stable Europe, which is vital for U.S. economic and security interests. Chaos in Europe never ends well for us.

They’ve modernized in our image. Ukraine’s military and government reforms are modeled after NATO and U.S. structures. They want to join our team—not Russia’s. That’s ally behavior.

Their victory is our victory. Every tank they destroy, every missile they intercept, every Russian position they take—it all directly weakens a regime that actively works to undermine U.S. democracy, elections, and alliances.

They send the right message to China and Iran. If we let Ukraine fall, it tells China it can take Taiwan and Iran it can bully the Middle East. Support for Ukraine is deterrence without direct war.

Public opinion in Ukraine is overwhelmingly pro-American. Polls show Ukrainians want closer ties with the U.S. and Europe, not Russia. That’s a rare and valuable thing in this world.

It’s a test of our credibility. If the U.S. abandons its partners, we lose all moral authority and influence. Why would anyone trust us again if we bail when it’s tough?

It’s cost-effective support. For a fraction of the U.S. defense budget, we’re helping cripple the military of our top rival. That’s probably the best bang-for-buck national security investment in modern history.

They’re exposing Russian weaknesses. Ukraine’s fight has revealed how hollow and corrupt the Russian military is. U.S. strategists are learning valuable lessons without a war of our own.

Helping Ukraine protects our own troops. The more Ukraine weakens Russia now, the less likely we’ll need to fight them—or another power emboldened by their success—later.

Ukraine admires the U.S. and what it represents. They wave American flags in protests and parliaments. That’s the kind of ally you support—not dismiss.

Except of course Russia is not a cancer.
I like Russians far more than Ukrainians.
If Europe is so keen on fighting Russia, they can off course spend more on defence.
STOP leaning on America to do it for you.
Its 80 years after WW II already, so when is Europe going to take care of themselves defensively? I saw these same arguments during the war in Yugoslavia. The Croats etc kept insisting it was America's business to fight for them and pay for the war. it just never ends.

“Really hope Putin recognizes he made a major mistake in estimating where Trump’s red lines were. “

Putin is not the brightest. Zelensky outsmarted him Feb 2022.

Putin has managed to build a nice retirement fund.

Irrelevant.

How much do you like Putin.

Putin is running Russia.

Putin is robbing the working Russian filling his retirement fund.
