“Replacing an electric vehicle (EV) battery can cost between $5,000 and $20,000, depending on the make and model of the car. However, many EVs come with warranties that cover battery replacement for at least eight years or 100,000 miles, making actual replacement costs” (answer from AI on Google)

So the tax credit may not even cover the battery replacement, and you also need to consider that there is almost no resale value on EV.

Last thing to consider is there are no minor fender bender accidents, an EV could be totaled in what normally considered a minor accident.

Why would anyone buy an EV is beyond me.

Tesla is a great car and they offered some great deals. But see my post above. The current cars are going to be obsolete. When you see Toyota jump in more on full electric and new battery technology, the time will have arrived.

I tend to agree with the exception of the
use in places where liquid fuel is a danger.

Then there was this not long ago…
A 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, was declared a total loss by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) after sustaining minor damage to its undercarriage battery pack. The damage consisted of a scratch and small deformation on the battery cover plate, which was enough to indicate an impact to the battery itself. This voided the vehicle's warranty, and the quoted cost to replace the battery was approximately $60,000—exceeding the car's actual cash value, leading ICBC to write off and scrap the low-mileage EV. The owners, who had purchased the car new, were shocked by the repair bill, noting it was higher than the price of a brand-new model.

Another major expense for EVs:

Electric vehicles (EVs) typically cost more to insure than comparable gasoline-powered cars. This is primarily due to the higher purchase price of EVs, the potentially higher cost of repairs (especially battery replacements), and the specialized labor required for servicing them.

There are two “fueling stations, located across the street from each other near where I live.
One is a Buc-ees, the other a Travel America truck stop. Both have electric recharging stations that are either incomplete on installation (no workers ) or have not been activated. This EV thing is falling apart.

Fully agree.

1900: Why would anyone buy a gas-powered automobile is beyond me. Transportation by horse is where it's at!

Sound familiar?

“Why would anyone buy an EV is beyond me.”

Saving $10,000 to $20,000 and hundreds of hours on fuel and oil changes.

EVs are basically the ultimate throw-away car ... heck, even to scrap one costs $500-$2,000, though i suppose one could always just park a dead one in the driveway or street until it caught on fire ...

“Why would anyone buy an EV is beyond me.”

Virtue signaling and / or delusion - if you can differentiate between the two.
