The Senate GOP’s campaign committee swung at Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) on Thursday after news broke that his wife, Angela Paxton, had filed for divorce.
“What Ken Paxton has put his family through is truly repulsive and disgusting,” National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez said. “No one should have to endure what Angela Paxton has, and we pray for her as she chooses to stand up for herself and her family during this difficult time.”
Ken Paxton is looking to topple Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), with one poll in June showing the incumbent trailing the state attorney general by 22 points. The NRSC endorsed Cornyn in the 2026 race and generally supports incumbents.
One NRSC staffer touted Cornyn’s marriage on the social platform X, posting a heart in a reply to a 2022 post from Cornyn celebrating their anniversary.
Angela Paxton wrote on social media Thursday that she was filing for divorce on “biblical grounds” after 38 years of marriage

He should bow out to allow room for another challenger the position is bigger than any one person.
Paxton might have cheated on his wife, (I am assuming based on the “Biblical” reason given), but Cornyn has been cheating on his voters for years. It’s time for a divorce.
The NRSC always supports the incumbent. That’s just one of the ways they keep all the senators in line.
Texas does not consider adultery grounds for divorce and it is not part of any settlement-been there, done that...
No-that is nonsense...
I do believe you are correct...
Both Paxtons appear to be Christians and decent people, outside of this.
Angela seems to be polite with her words. I believe she is being kind for the occasion, which makes me frustrated over her husband.
Ken has done incredible work, but this reeks of tactlessness by him and a refusal to do right by his family and God.
Huh? That is a basic reason for divorce!
Texas needs to fix that.
It hurts to get hit by an arm.

Is anyone surprised that the GOP Uniparty will do anything to support Cornyn and oppose Paxton????
Compliments of LOSER SEN Yikes Cornym.
The “everyone does it” is not a good answer. Always seems to be some controversy surrounding Paxton. That much smoke-maybe a fire? Don’t like Cornyn either.
I have to agree. If he is on the ballot we will get killed by the women vote now. We know cornhole and the GOPe are behind this but it could backfire with a clean conservative replacement. The base is going resent the hell out of what they did here to that bastard. There is enough time to do it. Paxton could have replaced Abbott to but now that is done too.

Davis still tries to convince himself that Paxton’s support isn’t enough to defeat Cornyn. He’s got another thing coming to him.
Depends on the definition of young.
Ha, clever.

Irreconcilable differences is good enough for Texas. Been there done that 3 times in Texas. Its easy to get divorced in Texas took 60 days last time
The Repub Senate Leadership is not in a strong position to start playing the “Holiness” Card.
It used to be grounds, but it was misused and used for revenge, it wasted time and money etc so out it went. I remember it being changed when I was a kid-reasons for divorce like fraud, abuse, etc are a big deal as they should be-screwing around is more a matter of either just not getting along, being incompatible or just plain old revenge...
