They did that with Omaha back in the 1950s so its a bottleneck on the Missouri River. Anytime there is too much water, snow in the Dakota’s, Omaha & Council Bluffs, IA end up flooding. The Loess Hills are 2-5 miles from the river because the river was wide & shallow until it was “fixed” for barge traffic.

We fished the Missouri River up in South Dakota and it was beautiful. You could see the bottom of the river. Come to Omaha and its muddy. I cringe when I see people take their kids water skiing on it. The danger of hitting a tree or body is high.
