Democrats Slammed for Promoting Dense Housing After California Wildfires

California Democrats have long advocated for the construction of multi-family housing under the guise of "affordable housing" and increasing the state's housing supply—often at the expense of single-family residences. Now, leveraging the recent Eaton and Palisades fires, they appear to be using these disasters as justification to displace families from their single-family homes in order to further their agenda for dense housing development.

Gov. Newsom (D-CA) said:

“Los Angeles has taken significant steps to rebuild after January’s fires, but the devastation is significant and there remains a long road ahead. Thousands of families – from Pacific Palisades to Altadena to Malibu – are still displaced and we owe it to them to help. The funding we’re announcing today will accelerate the development of affordable multifamily rental housing so that those rebuilding their lives after this tragedy have access to a safe, affordable place to come home to.”

California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton issued a sharp rebuke of Newsom and the Democratic legislature's plan to "rebuild" Altadena and the Pacific Palisades:

Hilton said, in part:

"What we see across California now is the Democrat war on single-family homes, accelerating. That's why they're not issuing permits. That's why it's taking so long. They [California Democrat politicians] don't want people to stay here, they don't want people to rebuild the Palisades, the way it was. They want it rebuilt the way Gavin Newsom is talking—reimagining LA 2.0... That's their extreme ideology. To tell you how to live. They want to tell you to live in apartments, near transit, without a car—is that how they live?"

Hilton cited several bills previously introduced by Democrats in the state Senate and Assembly aimed at converting single-family homes into apartments or multi-family units. Fortunately, there is still a strong sense of reason among Californians—particularly homeowners—who are pushing back against these proposals. If such legislation were to succeed, it could mark the final step in transforming the California dream into a California nightmare.

Why you could fit six families where that one house was.

Buck up comrades!

Easy to predict. The New Pacific Palisades:

[Cough, ahem, “Exclusive!”] Apartments and condos, each with very large “ocean views” by way of very large, live electronic displays of the ocean and coastline . . . including sound picked up from the coast highway and shoreline.

“Live!”

Good luck, getting your neighbor to turn down the volume.

These new Palisades 1000 sq/ft condos with ocean view balconies are going to have “affordable housing” pricing at 850k+ each, renting at $2,600/mo. Easily.

“Democrats slammed”. Democrats get slammed constantly for most of what they do but they don’t change and they don’t care. Fix our election system so they can’t cheat and throw them out of office. It’s either ballots or bullets.

‘Dense housing’….is that multiple families in a single unit? Just think of the money you could send back home.

Given California's history of shoddy forest management, failure to clear fast-burning flora, and horrendous water management, the last thing you want is to increase the density of housing. When those projects (let's call them what they are) need to be evacuated by yet another firestorm, where would you put the 10x to 20x more people?

Not discounting the other comments. California needs to earn from the Texas flooding.

Da Lost Angelenos are going to need somewhere to store their “hardworking” slave laborers and toilet cleaners when they aren’t killing law enforcers, voting, burning down Lost Angeleno or waving their Mexican flags.

Exactly. You’d think these fires were set on purpose to burn out the residents - then slow walk and delay rebuilding single family homes so developers can buy up the land for “affordable housing.” - money has magically appeared for affordable housing - including promises of expedited building permits.

You can be sure there isn’t any “affordable housing” - or large Soviet-style apartment blocks near Gavin Newsom’s new $9M mansion.

It almost looks like this was planned. No water, negligence by the woke leader, and a fire in the eastern portion of PP.

“Dense housing” is going up all over California - it means Soviet-style, eight or more story apartment buildings on single family lots - with no allocation for parking necessary b/c they’re all being built near “public transit” - which means 1/2 mile from a bus stop. Reports are coming in that bus stops are being moved to accommodate these massive projects. Developers get density bonuses for adding more affordable housing.

Re: North Hollywood.

Tried for over an hour to find parking so I could meet my dog training group - finally gave up and went home. Ditto when we wanted to take the red line into downtown LA - gave up after an hour of looking for parking.

Scott Weiner is the one behind the zoning changes in California - making sure zoning is now state instead of locally controlled, allowing for the utter destruction of single family neighborhoods.

DemocRats think row upon row of Soviet-style apartment blocks are where everyone should live. Except them, of course.
