Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Democrats who opposed Medicaid work requirements in President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” think “poor people are stupid.”
Host Dana Bash said, “I’m sure you’ve seen and heard a lot of the concern, including, and especially from Republicans who are the most vocal in Congress, about the fact that those work requirements are going to be very cumbersome to actually prove. And it will inevitably force the people who need that Medicaid coverage off the rolls.”
Bessent said, “Well, first of all, the Republicans are not the most vocal on this. It is a group of Democrats who, unfortunately, seem to think that poor people are stupid. I don’t think poor people are stupid. I think they have agency. And I think to have them register twice a year for these benefits, that is not a burden, but these people who want to infantilize the poor and those who need these Medicaid benefits are alarmists.”

Actually, it’s our govt that’s proven itself to be chock full of stupid people.
I think the toughening up on Medicaid would go over a lot better with a significant DOGing of the DoD and the like at the same time.

And it’s ironic.... that the Democrats think adult poor people and adult blacks are too stupid to get a photo ID for the purposes of voting... and yet they apparently think that children are ‘smart’ enough to know and decide if they want to permanently mutilate their bodies in order to become another sex.
They do have a point though. An awful lot of poor people.... ie minorities... do tend to always only vote Democrat... against their own best interests.
Democrats always fail to admit nothing is free somebody has to pay for it that’s what makes them such losers that can never be trusted with anything.
To be fair, a lot of stupid people are poor. Or politicians.
Well stupidity is one of the causes of poverty, along with laziness and ignorance.
Hard to remember the names of more than a couple SecTreas, but Bessent is next level. A real policy advocate not just a glorified bean counter.
When Gingrich passed welfare reform in 1996 with work and identity requirements, 1/3rd of welfare recipients disappeared overnight. Democrats pretend to think that work requirements are demeaning when in fact they know work requirements are a deterrent for fraud.
I know people on SSI that can work.

Should’ve never cut benefits for citizens without taking every illegal off first! This was a GOP engineered gift to the democrat party, period. If they really cared so much about entitlement spending they would’ve removed illegals.
They can do both at the same time.
I’m not any more in favor of giving citizens who are grifters bennies any more than giving illegals bennies.

Medicaid has been abused by tons of people! Since is free, some people just go to doctor to have somebody to talk to.
Not only it is humongous waste of our money, but it also clogged the system!
Now, because of Medicaid, US medical care now looks like in the one in Canada or Europe. Just like there it is clogged by tons of freeloaders, who have nothing else to do than to see a doctor!
Now, if you really need to sea a doctor, you my have to wait half a year!
Poor kids of any color who live in the country gain experience that saves their lives when nature pulls a “Democrat Party disaster” on them. This makes them smart. Nature does not tolerate idiots - which is why no socialist country or religion of hate country succeeds.
There’s nothing more stupid or inexperienced than your typical left wing underwater lesbian dance or Communism 101 major. (Note: There is no course higher than Communism 101 because one cannot advance from nothingness to a higher nothingness.)

I’ll go further. Democrats believe black people are inferior. Black people were literally owned by Democrats. Democrats probably believed they were “taking care of them N.....s.” It’s what they still believe. Why take care of that particular race? They deem that race to be inferior.
I’m not opposed to taking care of my dog or my cat, but there is no need to take care of a race of human beings.
Didn’t Clinton get that passed during his perverted presidency?
Winning political battles and elections aren’t important to you then. Just having the right ideological position is what matters.
The one group that you can cut with no political downside at all(the illegals) you don’t cut and instead make cuts on Americans(voters). Explain the logic of that? Sounds to me like The GOP isn’t serious about winning.
