Britain 'is on the brink of becoming a "second-tier" European nation like Spain due to economic decline and a weak military that makes us no use to our allies'

Britain is on course to becoming a 'second tier' European nation like Spain or Italy due to economic decline and a weak military that undermines its usefulness to allies, an expert has warned.

Research professor Dr Azeem Ibrahim OBE concluded in a damning new report that the U.K. has been paralysed by low investment, high tax and misguided policies that could see it lose its standing as a top-tier middle power at current growth rates.

The stark assessment weighed that successive government failures in regulation and attracting investment had caused Britain to miss out on the 'industries of the future' courted by developed economies.

'Britain no longer has the industrial base to logistically sustain a war with a near-peer like Russia for more than two months,' he wrote in The Henry Jackson Society’s latest report, Strategic Prosperity: The Case for Economic Growth as a National Security Priority.

The report assesses that Britain is now on track to fall behind Poland in terms of per capita income by 2030, and that the central European country's military will soon surpass the U.K.'s along lines of both manpower and equipment on the current trajectory.

'The issue is that once we are downgraded to a second tier middle power, it's going to be practically impossible to get back. Nations don't come back from this,' Dr Ibrahim told MailOnline today.

'This is going to be accelerated decline unless we nip this in the bud and have bold leaders who are able to make the difficult decisions right now.'

Dr Ibrahim welcomed the government's decision to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP from April 2027, but warned much deeper, systemic issues threaten to irreversibly knock the U.K. from its position as a globally influential power.

Perhaps part of the problem is who is making the analysis, even though he is right. Not sure what the OBE is...the UK created the ‘events’ that led to its demise. In my opinion, the main ‘event’ being the defanging of the Monarchy - with them out of power, there is now no check on raw Fascism nor any way to stop the repopulation of the country.

Not sure what the OBE is

I assume it stands for Order of the British Empire.

I think it's called a "peerage." There are many such peerage orders and initials.

It's common for politicians, academics, and even entertainment figures, to collect a whole mess o' initials as their careers progress. The old TV show, Yes, Minister, satirized peerages.

Kind of like how high-ranking American military officers automatically collect "scrambled eggs" as their careers progress, all those ribbons and badges on their uniforms.

I read in Parkinson's Law that one sign of declining institution or nation is an increase in awards, honors, titles, etc. The more inconsequential a nation, the more time it has for meaningless honors and celebrations.

If this article goes viral, the "expert" who made this comment isn't going to be too popular in Spain or Italy.

Be sure to cut the pensioners’ winter heat payments.

And kick a few puppies & stomp some kittens.

Thanks, I think it’s the UK with all the “Admirals” and then we have all the “4-star” generals 37 now, versus 7 during WW2, when we had roughly 10 times as many men in uniform.

Ditto Italy's natural wonders.

Import the third world; become the third world.

And if you have to import the third world because your native women would rather kill their babies then it's just a matter of time.

Maybe it’s just me, one thing I don’t understand about the UK and other countries is things like Winter Heat Payments, instead of subsidizing the heating bills so people don’t freeze in the winter, why not concentrate on making the fuel bills cheap enough so people don’t need their bills subsidized.

It’s the twisted logic of successive governments from both sides of politics, instead of developing their own fuel supplies which the UK could do, they developed “clean energy” sources that don’t work at the expense of the fuel bills of the elderly who freeze in the winter, then to save themselves politically they subsidize the fuel bills and end up in a never ending doom loop of bad policies followed by more bad policies.

If people depend on subsidies, they can be more easily controlled by threatening to take it away. Handouts give politicians power; affordable goods do not.

Through our American History we only had two star generals unless it was during a time of war when we needed a clear distinction of senority at the higher ranks. Following the war officers would revert back to their peace time rank.

But cheap gas prices that everyone can afford will lead to political power, why was Ronald Reagan one of the most popular Presidents in history, he took over a failing economy and thru smart policies created an economy that benefitted everyone, the result he won 49 states in his reelection.

The winter fuel subsidies have been taken away or cut back severely in the UK, Kier Starmer is hated because of it, if he managed to cut fuel prices to the point where subsidies weren’t needed, the Labor Party would cement the political power for years.

Britain, like other EU countries, planned on using the US for military needs so their own preparedness attrophied. If Trump lost the election, Britain would still be waiting for the US to perform any ugly wars or fighting.

I agree. Demographics is destiny no matter how much civnatcucks scream that it is not.

The formal discussions need to be held now with both Britain and France about turning in their nuclear weapons before the nutjobs they’ve let in from the 3rd world get hold of them.

The biggest problem with Britain today is all the muslims and Africans it is importing just as fast as the leftists in charge possibly can. All the problems from two tiered policing to censorship to the social welfare systems going bankrupt to exploding real estate costs are due to this.
