Trump Unveils 'Temporary Pass' Plan for Tax-Paying Immigrant Workers, Gives Power to America's Farmers

President Donald Trump is reportedly working on a "temporary pass" program that would allow tax-paying illegal immigrant workers, particularly those employed on farms and in the hospitality industry, to remain in the U.S. legally for work purposes, even if they originally entered the country unlawfully. Under the proposal, the decision would rest with American employers, such as farmers and hotel owners, who could vouch for these workers as long as they are paying taxes and contributing to the economy.

In a recent sit-down with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, President Trump shared his vision for a new "temporary pass" program that would allow certain illegal immigrants—specifically those who are law-abiding and paying taxes—to remain in the U.S. The focus, Trump emphasized, is on supporting American farmers. While full details of the plan are still forthcoming, Trump made it clear that he wants farmers to have the final say over which workers stay, reinforcing his commitment to agriculture and putting control in the hands of those who fuel the nation’s food supply.

“I cherish our farmers. We are going to do something for farmers,” Trump said. “I’m the strongest immigration guy and the strongest farmer guy, and we are working on a temporary pass where they pay taxes and the farmers are in control.”

This follows President Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill clearing a major Senate hurdle on Saturday. The bill allocates $46.5 billion for constructing and enhancing physical barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border, including 701 miles of primary wall, 900 miles of river barriers, and 141 miles of vehicle and pedestrian barriers. It also provides $12 billion to hire 10,000 new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and 5,000 Border Patrol agents. Additionally, $1.25 billion is allocated to reduce the immigration court backlog and expedite case processing.

OK but they must not be allowed to vote, and their kids must not become US citizens automatically.

We’ve had a guest-worker farm program for centuries. What’s changed other than another 21,000,000 invaders?

The guest-worker program, which I don’t back, was for people here legally. Not giving amnesty to illegals if they work in the Trump Organization’s or Big Ag’s industries.

They already have a temporary visa system in place for immigrant farmers. That system has been in place for quite a while. The problem is that the media and the Democrats...or do I repeat myself...tell people that nobody will be there to pick your crops if you do immigration enforcement. That’s obviously a lie. We can tax these people when the work in the US to offset the use of US resources, and track them, without preventing crops from being harvested.

The issue isn’t the migrant workers. It isn’t with legal immigration. There is some problem with ‘high end Green Cards’ but that could be limited to protect American graduates. The real problem is the illegals aliens, working full time jobs, unregistered and non-taxpaying.

That includes all of the workers whom take job related risks, without the employer paying workers comp or health care. Those who they don’t want traced because the perform illegal jobs or are part of illegal activity. Those that the employers don’t want to pay a ‘fair’ working wage to, and wish to ‘grift’ off of the taxpayers. That’s werein the real problem lies.

IMHO, the ideological divide isn’t with migrant workers with temporary greencards, or greencard holders, or people legally migrating. The problem is with the use and abuse of illegals to: profiteer, abuse, cost shift expenses to taxpayers, sex trade, drug trade, murders with sex and drugs, auto theft, sponging off of US social security and welfare systems, ect. ect. ect. that come with completely illegal aliens. Most Americans, when explained the reality of the above, tend NOT to support illegal immigration. So why the ideological divide?

The divide comes because the media, hollywood, and democrats tell people something that isn’t true...Like you can’t get your salad and food without illegal immigrants. That the economy will collapse because we get rid of illegal immigrants. They do this because they are PROFITEERING from: Sex trade, illegal workers, Drugs, or they just are to lazy to learn about the Temporary visas and greencards. I am not against legal immigration, or documenting workers, or safety for ALL WORKERS, like most Americans I am against Sex trade exploitation, drugs, and illegals undercutting Americans.

What we have is a failure to communicate the truth to millions of Americans. The difference in ideology is smaller than people think, but the difference in understanding is bigger than the Grand Canyon.

Cutting out welfare to able-bodied people and turning them into employees rather than parasites might help as well. It’s worth a try. Perhaps just start cutting the amount paid to them every month by a percentage that encourages them to get out and make up the difference themselves. We don’t want to shock their delicate psyches by throwing them into the workforce full time.

I understand where he’s coming from, but how do they pay taxes without a legitimate social security number?

There's already been temporary passes. They call them visas, and plenty violated their stay, ending up here for years. What guarantees will be put in place that those granted passes, will be properly tracked, not just now, but in the future? Can we put dog electrified dog collars on them?

Color me skeptical.

It appears that this would make those cheap labor loving big farmers the sponsors of these mojados-and like any sponsor of an immigrant, responsible for them, their actions, any crimes, financial obligations, etc-sponsorship is not cheap-ask anyone who has sponsored an immigrant family member or friend. Maybe the farmer will have to pay the mojados border-jumping fines, too. I think those farmers need to rethink their whining and remember to be careful what you wish for. Pres Trump has subtle ways of getting revenge on people who are always whining by giving them what they really don’t want...

That has been in effect as long as I can remember. Busses and vans would pick up legal temp workers, at the border, and drive the entire west coast harvesting crops, Then fall time, they would all go back home.

An illegal alien can legitimately pay taxes using the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. (ITIN)

The tricky part about Trump's proposal is that the illegal aliens must pay into the system and this must go through the employer.

If the employer is paying the illegal alien under the table and/or the illegal alien does not have an ITIN and is not paying taxes, it's "¡Adios, amigo!"

It was originally called, the "Bracero Program."

Started in 1942 and ended in 1964.

In 1952, the H-2 visa was created which allowed for foreign-born, temporary agricultural workers to be employed by US farmers. This essentially replaced the Bracero Program.
