“Does the entire location flood during hurricanes?”

I don’t know. I’m guessing the runway and facilities were constructed to stay above expected high water.

As to hurricane force winds - if a hit is predicted the place would be evacuated. Florida prisons and nursing homes are evacuated depending on the expected strength of a hurricane.

From what I’ve read, the deportees will be housed in fabric shelters. They are well made but authorities are not going to fool around with a hurricane.

No, that is not the real picture. The real location is a largely abandoned airport strip with a 2-mile runway and taxiways and a huge pad where they are placing large tents for the detainees.

“I hope they are going to have live-streaming cameras surrounding the facility that the public can watch.”

I was thinking the same thing, but went one step farther. Make it two-way video so they can see us when we point and laugh at them.

PRETTY sure they can figure that crap out!!

Of which I was confident. Being a close friend of a FReeper who lived there part time and had to go to considerable work to devise his means of dealing with it, I just wanted to know how the DeSantis team planned to do it at that scale. It's not a trivial problem, so I was curious. I respect FReepers enough to ask.

geesh.

I guess you have a problem with curiosity. That says a lot about you.

"In that case blackened chicken.

Was I not supposed to notice a black man there?"

Is this a valid legal opinion by the Governor?

“...I wonder how many will have to get run over before the rest figure things out?...”

Well, they’re certainly not the sharpest tools in the shed so it’s probably gonna take quite a few.

Good grief. The sewage problem would be one of the FIRST things that smart people would solve.

Years ago, we camped at the Collier State Park that is surrounded by the same impenetrable everglades as the Alcatraz.

We attended a park presentation on plants and wild life. There is lots and lots of both. After the program was over, I asked the ranger about the pythons that had escaped innto the literally impenetrable growth that exists beside the road for miles and miles and miles.

Shhhh...... We can’t talk about the pythons, but they do exist in the Park

I don't think I would have slept that night. Bad choice: gators or pythons.

I think there are laws in Florida against impeding traffic by blocking the roadway. Additionally, I believe there are self-defense laws protecting drivers from prosecution if they injure someone while fleeing in fear for their life.
