KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A man has been arrested following a multi-vehicle crash the killed five and injured more on I-20 near Wills Point.
According to KDFW, Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, 27, was arrested for the crash after he told officials he fell asleep at the wheel while he was driving an 18-wheeler westbound on I-20 in Kaufman County.
Officials say he failed to see traffic that had slowed due to another crash. His rig slammed into two other 18-wheelers and four passenger vehicles resulting in four people dying at the scene. Two other peoeple were critically injured, one of which died after being taken to a hospital.
According to KDFW, two other people were also injured but are expected to recover. There is currently no word on the full number of people injured in this crash.
Companioni has been charged with five counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently booked into the Kaufman County Jail.
The identities of the other people involved in this crash have not yet been released.
I avoid the interstate at all costs. Mostly foreigners driving.
